eczema does anyone know what to use if you have eczema on your hands? it's gross but my friend came over today and her hands looks really bad. one of her palms is bleeding and she said she uses lotions but nothing is working. her one hand hurts her so bad, she can't close her hand. |
I think there is medication with sulphur for that kind of problem - a friend had it too and the stuff he used looked like vasaline and smelled like rotten eggs but he said it really helped alot...I know he didn't need a precsription so I would suggest talking to a Walgreens Pharmacy or CVS and they can help your friend - that sounds painful, |
Sounds like your friend needs to see a Dermatologist. I have psoriasis it can be a pain in the bottom, and none of the OTC stuff was working. So I had to go to dermatologist and he gave me some creams to try, and if they did not work we would try something else. Well, the creams seem to working for know, but always subject to change. |
Doesn't blue star ointment help with eczema? I may be off here. I know it cures ringworm. |
thanks for the info, i will tell her what everyone has said. maybe she will get some help. her hands really hurt her  |
i'd suggest to her to see a dermatologist. i was diagnosed w/ eczema a few years ago and was RXed a few topical creams such as dermatop and elidel. they're working just fine for me. however, there is individual variation with all medical treatment, she'll need to seek professional help to see which meds work best for her own condition. |
My son is 20 months old and they diagnosed him with eczema at 6 wks! He was broke out bad! :( We were using elidel until they said that has caused cancer in younger children! We now use Aveeno lotion, soap, and diaper rash cream! And we use cortaid when he has a break out! Hope she gets it under control soon! |
My dtr has ezcema in about 4 patches that are pretty bad, she tried elidel didn't work she is now on some liquid steroid cream that helps some depending on the weather. My husband has horrible Psoriasis nothing helps. His dermo wanted him to go on self administered injections but he doesn't want to. I'd try anything. I have a mile eczema in my ears that I use a cream from my dr. |
My daughter has Psoriasis bad too. She's 14 and there's nothing worse then to not knowing what I can do for her and having to watch her deal with it. People tease her, it depresses her, etc. It's on her elbow and knees. Now it's spreading to her ankles, hands, and on the underside of her face, like the jawbone area. Sometime's it's on her eyelids. It just kills me to watch this. I've been to a dermatologist more times then I can count and nothing helps. I know you can't cure it but you can control it. Getting her to change diet, get sleep, and such is a no win situation. Plus I can't get her to do creams regularly. If you try and talk to her about it she gets bent and storms off. uggg, if anyone has any ideas, I'd welcome them gladly. Thanks. |

We have been to several drs and he also doesn't keep up with the lotions 3 times a day. The new injectibles are suppossed to work well but Idon't know if she is old enough but you may want to ask your doctor. good luck I feel for you and your dtr. |
Yes, you can have eczema on your hands and for now, shea butter hand cream will be good. It's so important to go to a dermatologist for this so many people try to take care of it with creams from the store :( I have very bad eczema patches on my right leg. Sometimes in the winter they will bleed. I use a cream call Elecon aka: mometasone furoate cream and it works. You have to have a script though. It is very effective and takes care of it perfectly! Since it's a steroid cream you can only use it for 2 weeks and then it does it's job for a while and then you do another course of it. A derm can put your friend on the right treatment program that will be effective for her. |
What causes eczema and psoriasis? And does it ever completely go away? |
you know Sherry Lynn, I'm not even sure what causes it and it can be controlled but I don't think it will ever go away. The strange thing is that I only started having these "breakouts" after I had my son so maybe hormonal changes? My friend also was diagnosed with psoriasis 4 years ago when he was 26. Go figure! |

The worst is when it's cold! Right now I am dying, it really is painful. I have to moisturise 150 times per day and yes, it does crack sometimes and that is painful :( It's so important to keep up with the treatment otherwise it can get out of control. That's what happened to me now. I have been so busy and neglected doing a course of treatment and I am paying big time  |
My Mother had psoriasis horribly. She got them in her mid 30's. It was so bad at times she needed to be hositalized and then they would give her tar treatments. She also was on many meds to try to control the outbreaks. Myself I have eczema and I didn't get it either until 13 years ago after the birth of my last child. When I moved to AZ it seemed to go away but now 5 yrs later it has begun to be bothersome once again. Skin problems are so NOT fun... |

What is eczema? Eczema, or dermatitis as it is sometimes called, is a group of skin conditions which can affect all age groups. In the United Kingdom, up to one fifth of all children of school age have eczema, along with about one in twelve of the adult population. The severity of the disease can vary. In mild forms the skin is dry, hot and itchy, whilst in more severe forms the skin can become broken, raw and bleeding. Although it can sometimes look unpleasant, eczema is not contagious. With treatment the inflammation of eczema can be reduced, though the skin will always be sensitive to flare-ups and need extra care. Is there a cure for eczema? There is currently no cure for eczema though research continues to shed new light on the condition. However, there are many ways to minimise the discomfort and distress which eczema can bring, the foundation of which is an effective skin care routine. A wide range of treatments is available, either over the counter at the pharmacy, or on prescription from a doctor. Many complementary therapies are available, which some people find helpful. In addition, there are ways of minimising environmental allergens commonly found in the home. |
My sister broke out with Psoriasis when she was in 5th grade (she is 27 now), and it was really tough on her. But she learned real quick if you did not do what your doctor told you, it can get out control easly. Other than my sister, my mom, me, and one of my cousins have it, and we have all noticed that when we are stressed out or sick it will flare up. Also climate and believe or not your tap water play a big part in controling it. My Psoriasis has pretty much has gone away since I went to the dr and she gave me a cream to put on the spots and moved to Fort Worth from Houston, I still have little breaksouts when the weather changes and if I am stressed or coming down with something. Now my mom and sis have servere cases of it and take a oral med for it, but they have to have there liver checked every three months or so. |
So not sounding like fun!! Ouch! So it sounds like something genetic then... |
They say its not genetic, but when your grandfather, mother, sister, you, and a 1st cousin (all on the same side of the family) have it makes you wonder. |

I have also heard that there is a link between eczema and thyroid conditions. My family is full of people with thyroid conditions but only my cousin and I have eczema. |
My son who is 23 now was born with it. Doctor said it was manifested by his allergies. His little face would bleed and be stuck to his blanket in the mornings. The creases in his arms and behind his knees. With bad flare ups he was prescribed Prednizone and always the old stand by Synalar Creme..that stuff is magic. Might not be a bad idea to be allergy tested. tell your friend good luck and ask about the Synalar. Was around way before Elidel. |
