As far as knowing someone who had the virus, I have had many both in my extended family in upstate NY, and friends throughout NY/PA. My daughter-in-law is the lead administrator in a Hudson Valley nursing home, and her facility was hard hit early on. They had both residents and staff come down with covid, and were unable to get face masks and other PPE. My daughter-in-law has not tested positive, despite the fact that she shared comfort with several of her residents while they were waiting to be transported to the local hospital; but she has been profoundly affected by seeing the suffering residents and their families who were unable to say goodbye to their loved ones. She is still so stressed by being responsible for the safety of everyone, but her facility has been covid-free for nearly a month. I am so proud of her!
Your situation in your area sounds like it could be dangerous. But it sounds like you are doing everything right. Do you have groceries delivered?

Wow, about your daughter-in-law. I agree with others - she is an angel on earth.

We have our priorities screwed up. We spend billions on military and we still are helpless against this virus

We do not have groceries delivered, but do either curbside pickup or shop as the first customers of the day using senior safe shopping hours. We have a sterilization station setup in our garage (our poor cars are parked in the driveway) where we sterilize any items coming in from outside sources...groceries, mail, etc. We have bottles of disinfectant stationed at each doorway, and spray down our shoes, then leave them in the garage. We always wear our masks when we go outside, and have a spare set on the front door hook for when we answer the door. We wash our masks in the laundry sink as soon as we return home, and spray the filters with lysol. A little bit "type A", but so far so good. It has really gotten easier though, and become a habit. The upside, my husband never worried about dirt brought in on his shoes when he was doing chores, and now that he leaves them outside, my floors are much cleaner!

Last night Kentucky's governor, Andy Beshear, mandated masks for 30 days in public. Our numbers were starting to go up. Lots of b---ing on Facebook this morning. Too bad.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf mandated mask wearing in public a few days ago, so far no high increases in new cases. My town is a big tourist town, many out of state ppl come here year round. Many residents commute to NYC to work. I must say, on the few occasions I had to go out everyone I saw had mask on. The privately owned stores will not allow you in without one, Lowes, Home Depot I saw a few ppl without a mask, I doubt these stores will tell them mask on or out of store.

I am doing Telehealth with my patients currently and Cali loves to sit on my desk right near the computer so she can see everyone and they always say hi to her!

When I got my first yorkiepoo, Elmo, he used to come to the battered women's support groups that I facilitated. It was amazing to see the calming effect that he would have when he sat on the lap of a woman while she shared her story. He was such a comfort to my clients, and a wonderful mascot to the group!

You are so correct! Cali thinks everyone patient who walks in the door came to see her - I am just an accessory! If she could sign a prescription with her paw print I am sure they would just send me home!

We do have a rural king store where we can take our dogs in. He loves that
