I Need Gardening Advice I need some advice concerning my spring bulbs...daffodils and crocuses are coming up now due to unseasonal 60 degree weather. What should I do? The weather is going to get cold again. Can I do something to protect them and if so, what??? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks  |
There is not anything that you can do = at least nothing that I know about. The same thing will happen here in Texas - our early trees are starting to leaf out. We will probably get one more freeze and they will drop off and have to do it again. About the only thing you can do is to keep your plants watered. It seems crazy but watering plants before a freeze will keep them from getting as damaged. However, in NJ, you are likely to have extremely cold weather before the spring, so they are likely to get really damaged. Maybe they will come out again, after the freeze, I'm not sure! |
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. It was over 60 degress here today, and I was walking around my back yard and saw some buds.. I expect they will die once the cold weather returns. |
Thanks Nedda and rowdysmom for your response. It is so sad to see the little green tops of my plants...so optimistic.I just want to tell them to turn around and go back :( I wish they could understand! |
you might be able to cover them with a blanket or mulch. but you probably have a lot of cold left up there. I don't actually think we will freeze again here this year, I have heard the baby birds are already chirping. We usually expect a freeze up until Easter. |
