Hornets, Wasps, and Yellow Jackets...oh my This has been the worst year ever for hornets, wasps and yellow jackets. And to make matters worse, I have seen few honey bees. Generally it is my nature to leave wild critters alone if they leave me alone. We have lived on the farm for 25 or so years and I have never had to declare war on the hornets, wasps, and yellow jackets. Until this spring. They are every where - and the the little yellow jackets are mean, aggressive little dudes. Everyone here has been stung multiple times, so I declared all out war. No exaggeration, I have bought at least 50 cans of spray - being careful to use different chemicals so that they don't build up resistance. It is more like the spray is flying pest fertilizer. Hopefully we will have a really cold winter to help kill some of them out before spring rolls around. |
They've been especially bad here as well! The wasps have been horrible and have multiplied so rapidly. My husband wiped out a nest on our deck that had well over 30 wasps on it. I'm allergic so I stay away. Very glad I hadn't accidentally found the nest while watering plants we have out there. |
Yikes - make sure you have lots of Liquid Benadryl on hand for the littles ! |
I'm at war with bees here, too. They have decided to nest in between the house foundation and my brick patio... They are not honey bees.. They are huge bumbles. Because I especially don't want my senior Yorkies to get stung, I am killing them off... Approx. 80 of them over the last 4 days.. They are thinning out, and I am determined. So who's the "queen bee" now you nasty little bumbles? 👑 |
