Cold induced ramblings... So, I was sent home from my new job cuz I am sick and have a cough that mimics the sound of a barking seal. Understandably, no one wants to be around me except Sir Rupert Teddykins and Netflix. Anyway, there has been a huge housefly circling my kitchen for days now. I have attempted to swat it, without success, on multiple occasions. So, today, I used some potpourri RAID on this pestilence as I am afraid of all flying insects and had very low tolerance levels with respect to feeling victimized in my own home by my fear and my cold. Well, the fly died or so I thought. I found it lying face up and twitching some hours later and I felt so guilty for killing it and for making it suffer. I always feel guilty when I kill insects because I fear them. I tried to tell myself that flies are harbingers of disease, pests etc. but I still feel bad for killing a living thing. So, I watched a documentary about Henry Ford and A Kings Speech and came here to distract myself from thoughts of the fly..... Does anyone else feel guilty about things like this?? I think I may have been a Jain in a previous lifetime. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism |
YES :p, I totally feel guilty and inappropriate killing any living creature. I don't kill insects - we always set them free...and/or get them out of the house. We don't even kill scorpions in our house, which my hubby is somewhat allergic to (their neurotoxin)...we just capture them and take them outside. In addition to Jainism, you have some Buddhism in you :D! |
I feel the same way as you. I hate killing living things. One second they are doing their thing and in an instant their life is snuffed out. I truly do not understand cruel people that enjoy hurting animals. They are truly sick. |
I always try to capture anything in the house and set it free. Try getting to a fly in between window blinds! It must be funny watching me try to get it. Glad to hear there are others like me out there! |
I usually catch insects and toss them out with a scolding not to come back in....... Right now I'm being invaded by stink bugs. I must have tossed a dozen of them out today. I have a sneaking suspicion I'm tossing out the same ones over and over again. I may have to start naming them soon. |
I capture any insects in my house and set them free. I give away any plant cuttings because I can't just toss them in the trash. I capture frogs in my yard and set them free in the woods away from the yard. I try not to kill any living thing, they all serve a purpose. |
I try not to kill to many things but bugs like flies don't get to much mercy from me, But I absolutely can not fish. The one and only time I went fishing was in FL and caught what I believe was barracuda that was longer than my yorkie. I recall being told that they were not good eating fish so we were going to toss it back, no one on the boat gave it a second thought but all of a sudden I started balling like a baby, all I could think about was this fish was almost the size of my yorkie, yet no one seemed to care. I live in MI and own three boats yet have not fished off any of them, people fish all the time right off my dock in small boats, I don't even think they keep most of what they catch, they just hook them and then toss them back, I guess that is not killing them, but dang the thought of putting a hook through a living thing just for the heck of it still upsets me. And don't even get me started on hunting, which seems to be the passion of half of the people that live here, so glad it is not my husband's thing either |
