Met a girl with a cute pup in a store--while talking to her guess...... ....how many mistakes she made? Bf saw her first. "Cute pup" we said. "Awww, a frenchie!" She insisted we hold her. We asked how old. "10 weeks". We said "Oh we want a frenchie but they're so expensive." Her: "Yeah, she was 4...." as in thousand. Me: "OMG" Her: "Yeah but we financed her. So she's like another car payment." Me: "Oh where did you get her?" Her: "Petland. But she has a pedigree, that's why she was so much. And she's half frenchie and half Boston, that's why she's smaller." Now I was SO holding my tongue. What could I do? so I just said, "Aww she looks tired. She's falling asleep?" Her: "Yeah we just came back from the park." Then the dog farted and she said "oops she farted" then walked away. |
Mistakes:) LOL! This sure is a list of things NOT to say to one of us YTers!!! She was too 'good' to be true, you can't make this stuff up. I admire you for keeping quiet, that must have been hard. So there really are people like this, sad but true. Thanks for sharing. |
Can't fix stupid...either they are dumb and did no research. Or they are rich...oh not if they financed...I'm sure you can get a good pup for that much...Not say that it isn't but not for 4k. ripoff |
Financing a dog purchase? I know people could just use a credit card to accomplish the same thing when buying from a pet store, but I still think this is morally wrong/unethical for the store to promote. I can't believe Petland is still in business anywhere. :( Poor puppy was probably exhausted and exposed to who knows what at the park. |

And No it's not a good pup as it came from PETLAND, ALL of their pups come strictly from Puppy Mills :( Very sad. |
Half french...half boston... at $4000. That all by itself is just so disgusting beyond words. I know they are known as "designer breeds", but my boss used to say a purebred and a purebred of two different breeds does not make a purebred. I agree that petstores should not be allowed to sell pups like that. |
Remember when Walmart used to sell small pets and fish? They stopped doing that years ago in Oklahoma. I wish other stores would follow... Stores, pet stores or otherwise, are just no place to be selling animals as if they are just another product to stock. Good on you for keeping quiet. There would be no benefit to the dog in educating her as a stranger on the spot... Just. wow. |

I get so made when I see the "sign holders" on the sidewalk for Petland. "Come play with puppies!" Ugh. I want to throw trash at the sign holder but I know they are just holding a sign. |
Before I was as knowledgeable as I am today, I too almost fell into the trap of buying a Frenchie from petland a couple years ago. They offer financing and some employees come up to you and offer "under the table" payment plans. Luckily for me I started doing a ton of research before being impulsive. As much as everyone hates seeing pups in a pet store, if you bought one you'd be supporting puppy mills. It's sad. A frenchton isn't worth 4k to me. |
Honestly I don't think ANY dog should warrant a $4000 price tag. I've read that wealthy Chinese have purchased dogs for $20,000. Some people just have way too much money. I didn't buy Uni from the right person either (I now think a broker), but at least we paid cash and it was over and done with. No interest or any of that. Still ended up enabling an animal abuser though. She may not have been a direct abuser, but she certainly did help that puppymills keep going on. |
Wow. On one hand I feel bad for her bc she so clearly just doesn't know any better...hopefully she won't learn some tough lessons the hard way with this doggie. Good for you for just holding your tongue too - I mean, what would be the point in being the one to burst her bubble, ya know? |
The thing I don't get is when people KNOW. I had a customer in my shop once tell me she bought a morkie or some other mix from one of the pet shops in town. She said, yeah you just don't know what you're getting from pet shops. Then why did you buy her?! Omg. I've been in that shop before for "investigation". They tell you the dogs are all from local breeders and you look at the cards and they are 99% from Missouri. None are AKC. |
Ha! A 4,000 dollar FART Go figure. |
