Going home tomorrow!!
 

I have spent the last 3 days in the hospital....I got a jump on this same pneumonia I get every year....it came real close to actually killing me last year, so I decided I would beat it to the punch and cut it off at the pass! I get this every single year, and as I get older, it gets harder and harder to bounce back....I knew where I was headed with this over the last week or so, so I went to my doc and she went ahead and admitted me for IV antibiotics and fluids....I was hoping they would only keep me for a day but it has been 3 days now, and I can not walk out.....insurance wont pay if you leave under those circumstances....bless his heart, my brother came down to manage the dogs and help my son while I am down....that makes it a "do-able" adventure....Jimmy cant manage totally, completely on his own....my brother is solid as a rock and my son is fine now until I can get out of here and get home.

Hope you continue to feel better, and soon! Can't believe you get this every year, ugh, what a pain. At least you got a bit ahead of it this year though.

You did great to get a hold of before it became unbearable. I wonder if the pneumonia shot would help...have you gotten it? If it would prevent this from happening every year, it is well worth it.

My mom was getting pneumonia often until they discovered that she was apirating the liquids she drank. When you swallow the opening to the lungs closes but hers was not clsoing quick enough, allowing liquid to get in her lungs which caused the pneumonia. She had to go through therapy to re-train those muscles and it has helped.

So very sorry to hear you are sick and were in the hospital, but glad to know the early treatment and care are making you feel better.
One would think that you had immunity after so many bouts? Is this an unusual bug you get?

Hi! so glad you're feeling well and had such great help while you were down. I will be following your example next school year as I have an asthmatic child with the worst immune system ever, so she ends up at the hospital with what they call walking pneumonia or actual pneumonia atleast once during every school year. We just got her out of the hospital Friday. Next time I will do like you said and take her for antibotics early on. Take care!

I wonder also if allergies sometimes causes pneumonia...?....I am glad that you now are home with your fur babies......:)

Judy I just saw this now. I sure hope that you are on the mend and back home now. Life for me has been crazy n busy and I leave in 2 days for the States. Know that I am sending bucket and buckets of well wishes your way

Judy, that Pneumonia is nothing to mess with, glad you caught it early enough before it really got out of control. Good to hear you doing well and on the mend.

This seems to be the precipitating factor in my annual bout with this pneumonia.....I have a poor history of taking care of myself, and it has become obvious as we age, (which I always knew and applied to OTHER people, NOT ME!!!), changes in behavior must take place! I have been taking the pneumonia shot every three years for the last 15 years....it is a great shot, and protects you from a huge number of cases that you encounter "outside the hospital", but when I was still working and was around all those sick patients, along with hospital borne illnesses, I was a holy mess!! Put a HORRIBLE allergy to cedar pollen (cedar fever!) on top of all that, and this is something I will deal with the rest of my life. Just realizing I am human and all this can and does happen to ME and not just everyone else, has made a huge and necessary change in the way I approach dealing with this! I am NOT immortal, I can actually die from being sick, so once I realized that, and changed how I deal with it, I will do better going forward! "Preventative medicine" rather than "reactive medicine"......the concept I applied to everyone else for the last 45 years....is now MY personal care plan! Thank you all for the concern and well wishes! I am indeed on the mend....soon as I get my voice back I will be 100%!!!

Another week of antibiotics and breathing treatments and I will be fine....still not much voice but I got ahead of it this year! I am on the mend!! Another doc visit in a week for "clearance"....
