Another Human Health Concern Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Found in the Jungles of Mexico Antibiotic resistance found in wild monkeys in Mexico! Big Agro meat farming is of a distinct concern - when livestock is fed proplactively low doses of antibiotics to prevent protect against disease vs a vs the conditions they are raised in. When will we start to learn we all are connected? and as the density on our planet grows - that chain of connection grows shorter n shorter. Here in Ontario the price of beef is up 40% over 3yrs ago - and this one reflects that farmers of beef are electing to go out of business - sell their big very valuable property and retire to Florida or some such thing - as well as they do not want the farmers life for their children. Now this is not big corporations although we do have some - the bulk of our beef comes from family farms. Not sure what the answer is - except I will continue to support my local organic and free range farmers - and will need to adjust my meat consumption to accomadate the rising prices. |
Some people will not realize *just* how truly frightening/devastating this could be...but it really is. Something like this could eventually cause a pandemic that we've never imagined or seen in this age/time. Personally, I wish they'd just be done w/ it and outlaw the use of low-level antibiotics in factory farms - it's ridiculous, unhealthy -- and would not be needed if they'd just farm in a less cruel, less crowded, less unhealthy manner. Yes, it would cost money, but doing the right thing is worth that kind of money in the end, it always is. |
