Sending Seeds in Mail??? I have some Bush Beans I am putting out this year, and my cousin wants some of the seeds. Do y'all think I can send her some of these seeds, which are like the size of a lima bean, in one of those 6" x 9" brown envelopes? Will the post office let them go through? Thanks for any guidance offered!!! |
Beans I don't know what the laws are about plants/seeds etc crossing state lines. However the USPS might wonder what those weird shaped things are. LOL! If you want to be safe, how about wrapping them in paper to stop them rattling about and mail in a small box? Or even a well padded envelope? |
Remember when you could order those tomato plants and herbs and chia pets and rolls of garden flower seeds from those TV ads, where you call the number and they send you the seeds or plants to you? If you look online, you can find lots of online seed catalogs, order seeds and have them sent to you. |
Seeds I don't know about the interstate US rules but I know that bringing any seeds or plant material from abroad needs certification that they are disease free etc. Also with the security of the mails these days, anything that seems odd may raise suspicions whether seeds or not? Or perhaps this is no big deal and we should not worry about it? iDK! |
I used to ship quail eggs for hatching, you shouldn't have any problem.... Shipping them to Hawaii is verboten though, I think. Canada may have a restriction as well. So, if she's in one of the other 49 states, nadda problemo! |
I've received quite a few seeds from people in the mail. It's a popular way to get heirloom varieties that you can't find at your local nursery. Some I buy, Some I exchange, all through the mail. |
Like I said - lots of seed catalogs online - I imagine they use all forms of postal and shipping services. |
