another food q? ok, so earlier i went on a massive store jump trip all the way across town doing research on puppy food. i stooped at every store but farm and fleet . *there was a huge, scary looking guy walking the parking lot looking into cars :/ i try not to be judgmental but you know... better safe than sorry* anyway by research i mean i took pics of any bag of food or treats that said 'small breed or small breed puppy, small breed adult' and marked a note of where and how much so i can look up the brand and line when i got home . im always incredibly deep with my research so i want to even match the bags. but anyhow this brought up the question of what size bag to buy :/ i found everything from 3 lbs,4lbs,4.25lbs,5lbs,6lbs,15lbs and i think 35lbs bags :/ i don't have a ton of room to store alot of dog food (it's why i buy the smaller bags of cat food for my hedgehog who goes though a 3.5 lbs bag of food in about 2 months with some left)- or to clarify i don't have alot of dry- dog proff areas to store large amounts of dog food without it being in the way. also with one small bag being anywhere from 3-4 pounds for $20 a bag i really dont wanna have to buy another every two weeks when i can get a 35 pound bag for $30 and wont have to buy again hopefully for a month. so that leads me to my question, what is a reasonable size to buy so it's not a waste of money/space and still be a safe (enough food without having to make weekly trips to the store) supply of food? about how many cups of dry food is in a cup? because if i need to feed about a cup a day working up to two or three as she gets older than a 4lbs bag would be stupid , would last maybe two weeks,3 maybe but a 40lbs bag ridiculous for one 3-6 pound dog :/ **so basically i just wanna know about how many cups would be in each size bag or a simple way to work it out :/** any help? im sooo not a math person and all the conversion charts are giving me a headache. so puppy math time? if someone could explain the equation used to solve this to me maybe in terms a yorkie could understand? id be eternally thankful :) |
ok i think i got it? man i hate math O.o ok so assuming : 16 ounces makes 1 pound 8 ounces makes 1 cup than its (bag poundage X 16) divided by 8+ number of cups per bag? so a 20lbs bag would be 20 X 16 + 320 ounces 320oz/8=40 cups in the bag ? yes? no? |
A 35 lb bag will get stale before you use it up unless you have something like a foodsaver that you can vaccume seal many 1 gallon bags of dry food. Cody is almost 4 y/o he eats 2/3 cup a day. I buy 4.25 or 4.5 lb bags, After I open the bag I store the food in air tight containers. These size bags last less then a month, I always buy 2 bags at a time so I don't have to travel as often. Since you have to free feed puppies members that have puppies can better tell you how much food a month their puppies eat. |
