Just breaks my heart to think of them all.

I know Jeanie it is a heart breaker for sure! I remember when we had our freak ice storm Christmas 2013, we were without power heat electricity etc for 7 days, and despite a portable generator, we decamped - we got lucky into a friend of a friends home - but we would have rented two motel rooms to get all of us warm n safe.

My Blackies were quite comfy in freezing temps - but poor Razzle was pretty cold despite his warm coat and blankies.

Thank you. I live off of exit 63 on the LIE, and I travel 35 miles west to Old Westbury for work. I love my job, but the commute is exhausting, even in good weather because of the traffic on the expressway. I can't imagine traveling to Manhattan from Mastic Beach. I hope all is well for you and that you weather the storm safely.

My brother, niece and nephews live off Wm Floyd Pwy. Living in Mastic Beach & commuting to the city was interesting lol, I got stuck many a time on the LIE due to snow storms, one time I had to abandon my car on Shelter Rock Road, was lucky to find a cab and spent the night at my SIL brothers house in Westbury (Levittown) that was a nightmare trip lol. Hope your area doesn't get hit hard. Here on the mountain so far appox. 3, 4 inches have fallen, keeping fingers crossed. Be careful.

It was snowing here in NJ when I got up this morning. The snow was covering the grass but not sticking on the roads. bubba had an appointment to get his rabies shot at 1 and the vet started sending out emails around 10 that they would close early at 5 today. Bubba got his shot and on the way home it was starting to stick on the roads. By the time I looked at my email again the vet changed closing to 3. Airports are heavily canceling flights. Schools had early dismissals and the news is showing empty shelves in the grocery stores.

It's coming down like crazy right now and they are projecting 12 to 24 here on the New Jersey Coast with high winds. If the power goes out for a long period at least we can put food outside.

The big problem we have here along the coast flooding as it melts. So between the blizzard, power loss and flooding we have to worry about evacuations. I'm a Red Cross Disaster Team member so I have my "go pack" ready. Let's hope I don't need it and can stay home this time.

Stay safe everyone. East coasters check in when you can.

I have the weather station on, their concerned with flooding when high tide comes in around 1AM, praying that doesn't happen and you don't have to grab that "go pack". Stay safe.

So, good morning. Things are not as bad as predicted. Looks like about 6 inches in our driveway. The NJ Transit trains are soon running, the GS Parkway is open and the travel between NY and NJ ban is lifted. It's 23 degrees and still lightly snowing. So things dont look too bad, just as long as people dont get over confident and start trying to play demolition derby out there.

Big sigh of relief for most of you and likely most people still have power, I would guess. Dodged a huge bullet over the dire predictions, but it's far better to be prepared as the all the NE states were and just shut down for a while in case the worst happens.

lisaly 01-27-2015 09:21 AM

So far all is quiet. It is still snowing, and at this point, it's not heavy. We have approximately 22" and they are still expecting at least a few more inches accumulation in Suffolk County. The east end of Long Island has the most accumulation, but that's not unusual.

Good to hear from you Lisa - hope your electric is on, heat and stuff! I am thinking of you, and all the folks in the direct eye of the blizzard.

We've been dumped on with a couple of feet of snow. The wind woke me up at least twice. Why do I live here when I was meant for hawaii??

lisaly 01-27-2015 02:29 PM

The wind chill makes it brutal to be out for long. My back doesn't like it, but I don't mind shoveling, but I can't stay out too long before my hands really hurt. I didn't realize it until I went out, but my neighbor was so kind and did the end half my driveway with his snowblower. That is the really difficult part, since that part is where the plow piles the snow. I still have to shovel my path to the door, but I got the rest of the driveway done. I can only do half hour stints because of my hands, even with two pairs of gloves on.

We have a two hour delay tomorrow morning for our schools, so hopefully that will ease up the driving in the morning. It's beautiful, but I'm not too crazy about snow. We usually brave the cold and snow, but poor Katie has not had her walk today. She romped for a short while where I shoveled, but she will have to settle for indoor play today.

Was happy to hear your area didn't get what was predicted as a possibility. Glad your go pack stayed home. Looks like the pups had a bit of fun in the snow lol, cute lil babies.

So happy the area's expected to get that 36" lucked out and no power loss. Only 2 more months to go through this.
Here on the mountain we got 7" of the 12" predicted, it was bitter cold, I near fainted when I saw a crew of 4 young men walking up my driveway with shovels:eek: 10 bucks to clear driveway. I am living here 13 years, this is the first ever. 10 minutes they were finished, all I had to do was clean the cars off and spread salt, my fingers were numb after 20 minutes, but was so grateful for those guys. Glad everyone fared well.

Happy to hear you have all done pretty well. Hope the worst is over and things get back to normal soon.

Maximo 01-28-2015 05:11 AM

Happy to read everyone is safe. 22 inches is a lot of snow!

Lisa, I hope you are not aching today after shoveling snow. That is really hard work.

Adorable photo of your babies at the door. :)

That doesn't seem fair. You get a snow day and have to do brutal work instead of rest up and then go in to work the next day. Ugh!

We have another storm coming in today in Ohio however, we have yet to be hit as bad as Boston and surrounding areas to them.

Thank you Sandy for thinking of us. I've been thinking of Hawaii a lot.:D Still doesn't warm me up though.:doghouse:Saw a picture of a dog tied up outside with the weather at 3 degrees F. There are people who should not be allowed to have a pet of any kind.

A dog tied up outside in the bitter wind and weather! How awful - to be tied up, unable to seek help and just think that's it for the rest of his days. That poor baby!!! I hope whoever took that picture alerted AC that there was an emergency situation with a dog about to freeze to death - poor sweet baby. During the ultra cold weather, I worry so much about those poor thing out there on the run or just left outside no matter what happens. It's such a shame our country doesn't police its animals any better than it does.

It's going to get up to 73 here today & stay in the upper 60's, low 70's for a few days and then I think I heard we're going to be in for a weather change - whether rain or freezing cold, haven't heard. Everybody in the storm track - please stay safe. And keep an eye out for stray and outdoor dogs in your neighborhood.
