I was at the hospital!!!! HAHA, i knew that would grab attention.... well i was at the hospital to take x-rays (which took FOREVER... i was there for 2 hours). It was horrible, i hate hospitals. Some people had "entourages" who took up all teh chairs (im not joking... this one lady had like 4 family members with her taking up chairs) it normally wouldnt be a big deal to me, but my ANKLE was what was being x-rayed and i was supposed to STAY OFF OF IT (my doctor wanted me to call in sick for 2.5 WEEKS so that i could stay off it as much as possible... but that wasnt an option because i am taking my Leave of absence and it wouldnt be fair to the kids to say "oh shes not coming anymore" especially when i wouldnt get to say goodbye..... so i opted to take three days, the weekend and monday :p ) Anyways... the 'unoficial' diagnosis is tendinitis of teh achilles tendin... i took x-rays to rule out the possibility of a break. I am staying of of it as much as possible and taking aleve.... does anyone have any other suggestions??? or hopeful stories on how long recovery will take???? I am hoping it is better by next week, but i scheduled a follow up to get a cortizone shot (sp) next week if it doesnt work.... |
Hot and cold packs - alternate them every 10 minutes or so. That's all I can suggest, and keep it elevated. This can take longer than a break to heal and is re-injured really easily, sorry. I hope you get better soon. Glad it wasn't a break though. |

You poor girl...that sounds so painful! I'd say ice and heat also...you can get an ice/heat pack at walmart that has a band to hold it in place. I would also think possibly massaging it...always going in the direction of your heart. Another thing that has worked great for me with tendonitis is acupuncture! I cannot believe the relief I've gotten from acupunture...but you've got to find someone who knows what they're doing. Hugs to you...hope you get better quick! |
OUCH....i KNOW THAT HURTS ..do take it easy .. Deb |
I can share some professional advice here.... Quote:
My Orthopedist (sp) said to do just what Sabrinasmom suggested. Go to a medical suppy store and you'll find the cold packs that you store in the freezer that have a velcro strap to wrap around and hold it to your leg. For the moist heat, put a damp towel in a plastic bag and wrap that around your ankle, and then wrap a heating pad around that. The medical supply store should have a large heating pad with straps on the cover so that you can tie that on too. He suggested 20 minutes for each session. As for keeping it elevated, he suggested I take a couch cushion, put a pillow (or 2) on it and prop the ankle up on that and put a pillow under my hips. The idea is to keep your ankle above your hips, and your hips above your heart. (Think about that one for a minute! hehehe) Good luck!! |
thanks for all the help you guys..... i feel loads better allready after only one day of rest... it is SO HARD to take the backseat, im a get up and go person... ii will have to do the hot and cold thing and see how it goes.... |
If you have a dish basin - hot water and then cold water (with ice cubes) will work. Also - I take baggies and freeze water int hem or drinking water bottles. Not as comfy, but does in a pinch. |
I agree with the hot/cold packs, this will help with the swelling and lessen the inflammation around the ankle so it can heal faster!!! Anytime you are sitting down keep it elavated above your heart....it will probably take about six weeks to fully heal but you should be able to start putting good weight on it in about a week...just be careful you don't want to rehurt it!!! |
