Anti-Malware-Need suggestions
 
Can anyone suggest a free anti-Malware program? My computer is being overrun wih Malware!! Thanks!

A while back our tech at work used malwarebytes, I think and it seemed to do a pretty good job.

The Admin here at YT (very tech savvy) always recommends Malwarebytes: Welcome Malwarebytes Anti-Malware users

Another vote for malwarebyte. I don't think there any need for the Pro version so just stick to the free. If you don't have it run automatically scheduled, I suggest you run it maybe once every two weeks or so.

And ALWAYS remember to back up your important files!!!!!!

What kind of computer?

Is this affecting Macs or just PCs?

I've downloaded the anti-malware on my PC. I think it detected about 500 different malwares on my computer. I am so computer illiterate. Is there anything else that I would need to do to protect my computer? I already run Norton antivirus.


Do I need to download it on my iPad?

I would be concerned that Norton is not detecting these and blocking them. Have you run your updates on Norton, or does it do automatic updates? It might be a good idea to run the Malwarebytes a couple times. Just to make sure the second time it doesn't pick up something it missed the first time. It might be a good idea to change passwords to anything that may contain your personal information/credit card info too.

What is your OS? If you are Windows 7, 8, (and maybe XP) you can download Microsoft Security Essentials from the Microsoft website. It's free, and it works seamlessly. I have had zero problems or conflicts with it and have been using it for about three years.

If you decide to go this route, be sure to fully remove Norton from your machine before adding Microsoft Security Essentials. First you have to remove Norton through the "add/remove" utility on your PC, which does remove most of it but leaves some bits behind that can conflict with other antivirus programs. (McAfee has the same issue, I think they do it on purpose to make you decide not to switch). Then you have do go to Norton and download their "removal tool," and running that will completely remove those last little pieces. Then install Security Essentials.

Good idea about changing passwords. Thanks! Norton runs updates automatically. I'm really surprised it isn't catching the Malware. I know it catches viruses, but why not Malware? Hmmmm

If I want to take my documents and put them on a disk what kind of disk do I use? I want to be able to pull them back up when I need them. I have so many stored on my computer but I need to free up disk space.

My nephew (a business owner) who owns his own computer repair shop installed Avast and Spybot on my computer. With Avast I will stop the viruses and run scans automatically once you set the setting to do so all you just have to register your computer using an email address in order to keep it active. With Spybot you have to run the programs on your own.

You could get an external hard drive. They are very easy to hook up. You could copy all your files to the external hard drive, then every time you create a new document you can save it to the external hard drive. But, you should still back up the external hard drive too. I am in the process of finding an outside backup source for this very reason. I too am running out of disk space. As far as what kind of disks to use, I am not sure.

What I do w/ my documents is back them up in TWO places, which is essential. You don't want only 1 back up like at your house bc of equipment failure and what if it was somehow stolen? All my documents are both on my Seagate Free Agent Go (the external drive) AND on my Microsoft One Drive (online)...what's nice about having them also online is that you can access them from any computer/anywhere.

Malwarebytes is awesome!! I currently have it, along with Microsoft Security Essentials. Microsoft Security Essentials is junky, however. It says that it is currently "protecting" my computer, yet it is MALWAREBYTES who is constantly popping up and telling me what kind of websites it saved me from that day. While I had just Microsoft Security Essentials, I got tons of viruses on my computer. It was annoying. I would only download Microsoft Security Essentials as an extra precaution. Make sure to go to the actual company's website to download it too, rather than just looking it up on Google. Sometimes hackers/viruses create websites that look like the real one to get access to your computer (scary!). malwarebytes.com. This one is free too.

If you also have an advertisement loading problem, I use Ad Blocker Plus. It's free.
