Of all the things you can return to a store... @ Lowe's, a woman in front of me returned 2 brown dried up very dead plants (or were they flowers?)! I had no idea you can do that...not water your plants, kill it & get your money back. Lolll, of course, it had to be w/in 90 days. |
Oh no! My plants from Lowe's came with a 1 year guarantee! But of course I misplaced my receipt! |

When the associate said 90 days, maybe she meant w/out a receipt bc the lady didn't have one. She was able to look it up w/the card she used. |
Most gardening stores have a year warranty. I have returned dead plants before! :) The stores just return them to the supplier. They don't lose money on dead plants, the suppliers do. |

Oh duh! It was WalMart! I'll have to make a special file for plant receipts, lol! |
Wow, I'm learning new things! I never purchased plants for myself...I'll be def keeping the receipts loll. |
Think I'll water mine today! Lol! |
Yes, I worked in retail many years ago. You would be surprised of the things people returned. In addition to the dead plants, the worst thing ever was a still wet stinking of the ocean bathing suit in a plastic market bag. She claimed "It didn't fit" ... um, then how did you wear it into the ocean, LOL? Well store policy was we had to take it back. Obviously it was not resold, so the store took a loss on it. Oh the stories I could you! Thank goodness I'm out of that field now! |
There are many gardening stores that have a lifetime warranty as long as you keep the receipt. Some may give you an exchange for another plant or 1/2 price toward another plant or refund. It pays to ask wherever you get a plant about their return policy. |
Costco will take anything back. I was behind a woman returning the dirtiest set of cooking pots that I have ever seen. |
:eek::eek: I was surprised at plants but a nasty bathing suit and pans? |
a one year guarantee on perennials such as bushes and flowering shrubs is normal at garden centers as well as at Lowes and Home Depot, and LOL I do have an envelope for all my gardening receipts, but with my luck they usually die around 14 months after the purchase! I am not sure if there is a guarantee for annuals |
I always throw all my reciepts in a show box along with any tags attached to an item saying it is warranted. I once had a bathroom rug that had rubber on the back that started peeling off after about two years. Just for the heck of it I tried to return it with the tags. They took it because it was still under warranty. I was surprised it was so easy and it was covered. I was at a grocery store when an older man came in carrying a raw turkey. I had to see what he was gong to do with it so I watched him (nosey, I know). He told the woman at the return counter his wife wanted him to return the turkey because the giblets were missing. After the woman closed her mouth she gave him his money back. |
We've returned dead plants a lot. Here in Vegas there is definitely a trial and error to see which plants will survive. Some of them that said Full Sun didn't even last a few days out in the sun. Sometimes it's not bc the person didn't water them. |
OMG @ least wash the darn pots, swimsuit & whatever else...turkey loll! Gross. I hope I didn't offend anyone, when I said not water the plants & kill them, that's something I would've done. I have no idea if the lady went on vacay or if she was sick & was in the hospital...didn't mean to sound judgy or anything. |
