Just wondering as it started in England this year. I would be so jealous! Any pics appreciated!:D

Oh I know... they were talking about it on the TV... I love the tour... mainly bc it's like going on vacay for me. The photo coverage is stunning!

I really used to get into the tour...and then Lance Armstrong kinda ruined a lot of the excitement for me. I still like it though and think that bikers are some of the most amazing athletes ever! Is anyone at the forefront who you're predicting will win?

Totally agree - we all thought he was amazing :(

What WE can't understand is why SIR (!!!!!) Bradley Wiggins (how very British! :D) our Olympic Gold medallist isn't competing? There's probably a really obvious reason that I haven't read...:rolleyes:

Me too...me and my hubby both admired Lance and thought so much of him and his athleticism; we chose to believe his non-doping claims due to his being tested so many times, and because we couldn't ever imagine him lying about it. Boy were we naive. Funny, a friend of ours for YEARS has been saying that he was 150% sure that Lance was doping bc his achievements just weren't in any way achievable without some sort of enhancement...he was right.

Just 12 miles from your door, wow!! Are you going to try to see them?

I agree - I'm SOOOO naïve about so much stuff - people that we've kind of grown up with, people that we admire....we just don't want to even think of such things, let alone believe them....

And as for going - I know it sounds really dreadful, but I doubt it....we went to the Olympic cycling events, not at the stadiums, but the road ones around (Dorking) Surrey....what a complete nightmare that was. We're too small to do it all - people spilling into the path of cyclists hurtling by, thousands and thousands of people battling to try to see (literally)....

Soooo...think we'll probably watch it on tv with a nice freezing cold glass of white vino in hand....!!! :cheers: :D

I woke up at 6am today to watch the Tour on tv as it was through Sheffield and Yorkshire.

Oh my gosh, I forget how spectacularly beautiful those hills are! You could see how rough they were on the riders though. That one in three hill sure slowed them down. They looked absolutely knackered by the time they got to the top.

Such beautiful scenery. I love the Yorksire moors and the Lake District. Quite possibly the most beautiful scenery anywhere in the world.

Oh darn I missed it. I love the people and gorgeous scenery. I too was so disappointed in Lance Armstrong.:thumbdown

the tour is still going on, it will be for about 10 more days, the first three days were in England. Now they are on to France. We DVR every day since my husband is a biking nut, in fact we rode 15 miles tonight and I LOL'd when they said it was an easy 90 miles today, I can't even imagine riding that far.

Ian and I were soooooooooooo disappointed in the whole Lance Armstrong thing, LOL it's almost like we took it personally, we believed up until the very very end that he was innocent. My husband said all along the French had it in for him and were sour grapes so they made up stories about him...... still hard to believe that he was never caught since they do so much drug testing. That is why we kept thinking he was innocent, how did he manage to pass all those drug tests, I will never figure that out. Then our bubble was burst when the last American that won (can't remember his name) was found to have cheated as well, we thought surely he would be found innocent, but once again he was not. I sure hope they have some better drug testing now.

not that Lance was right but you have to wonder how many others were doing the same. Lance was pretty high profile so he was in the spotlight, some of the others might have flown under the radar.

Sorry for the delayed response... everyone I have picked so far has crashed/abandoned! I pick... they're out... pick again, out again! Now I'm afraid to say bc I don't want to jinx anyone. Lol!


And about Lance.... I think it was his 2nd tour when he abandoned due to one teste being the size of a lemon or grapefruit. Then he goes home and gets treatment for the cancer. Then he comes back and starts winning.

I don't agree with drugging/doping. Contador lost a Tour win for testing positive and was banned for 2 years. LA stated the guy had it in for him. What was he taking that wasn't showing in the testing? I'd like to buy some.


Drugs don't make you an athlete. They don't give you the ability to climb mountains, do time trials, or sprint well. If he couldn't do all those things very well, I don't care what he was taking, he would not have won. Some of his team members were doing the same thing... why weren't there any ties?


Jockeys are tested. Why? The horse does the running. Who is that golfer touting drugs to treat his rheumatic arthritis? Should he be allowed to play/compete? And baseball players. Was their blood held and retested and their titles/awards taken from them? Was anyone banned for LIFE?


I am disappointed, in Lance and the whole sports system. I don't think we've heard all the facts, so I will not judge him. At most I think he's a good man who may have made some bad decisions, but I don't think he deserved to lose everything.

My edit: Nibali is looking good, and I'm rooting for Peter Sagan, TeeJay, Frank Schleck, and a few others. I'd love to see Chris Horner do well. I question the ethics of Simon Gerrans... he was trying to block Mark Cavendish with his elbow in stage 1, final sprint. Mark has so much class to not argue the point as medically he was out anyway. (I watched it in slomo, frame by frame, 5 times). Then Gerrans takes out Talanski, and I think that was also deliberate.... nasty dude.

David Millar denied a start in the Tour... sad. Brad Wiggins... not chosen... bad call guys!

Also missing Cadel Evans... maybe next year....
