Let's Talk About Vacuums I am in desperate need of a new vacuum. I have all hardwood floors, but I want one that is good for both hardwood floors and rugs. I don't want a real huge heavy one, and the attachment for doing the stairs would be a plus. It has to be pretty powerful too. I prefer the bag-less types. Do you have a vacuum that you really like? If so, please share. Also, if you have one that you hate, that would be good to know too! My price range is around $200 or less, but for the right one, I could go a little higher if I had to. I appreciate all your input. Thanks! |
I'm loving the Shark brand lately. They seem to have a great selection, so something for every need. Also, their prices aren't terrible and I've heard great reviews. I have a Bissel that I hate and I had a terrible experience with Dyson customer service for my mom, plus their prices are crazy high. We're building our new house this summer and will have a lot of tile and hardwood flooring so I WILL be getting a Shark vaccuum. I'm just not sure which one, yet. |
Thanks for you reply! I'm looking at a few different brands (some of which you have mentioned) so this helps. I really just want something that's quick and easy, but actually works! My current vacuum (the brand escapes me right now) has been a headache from day one. I was looking at this Bissel since it had a lot of good reviews : Are you familiar with this model? What is it about yours that you hate? . |
I have a Meile and love it for my hardwoods. It's not great on the carpets, but we just have area rugs, so it's not a big deal. This is the model I have: Miele Olympus (S2121) Canister Vacuum Cleaner w/Free Overnight Delivery + Free 2 Boxes of Vacuum Bags |
I have a Dyson and love it! The dust and dirt that it pulls up is amazing. Yes it has a hefty price tag but in the 7 years I've had it I've never had a problem. |
Thanks guys - appreciate your input! I'm still reading reviews and trying to figure out which one I will get. I saw this one yesterday ... It looks like it has a lot of suction power, and it bends nicely to fit under beds. Does anybody have this one? . |
I bought a Eureka Boss from a consumer reports review some years ago. They were right on the suction -works great but it's just so heavy and clunky, didn't think about that at the time... I have all tile floors but it is really good on carpet. |
I need a new vacuum too . . I am looking at the Shark or the Dyson . . . I have cats and friends bring their dogs over. I really need one that continually picks up. |
From what I'm hearing - Dyson is a great name, but they are very expensive. Bissell has cheaper models, but they are made cheaper - plastic cracks, and the hose beds and breaks. Shark is a good name - some complaints on the steamers, but the vacuums seem pretty good. I'm still leaning towards this one : http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009ZDJIFG/...SIN=B009ZDJIFG Because it looks very powerful, it's only 10.5 lbs, and it bends nicely to fit under beds. . |
I'd say Dyson or Shark. The Shark might be more in your price range. |

Stay away from the Dyson, can't remember the model, but it has to recharged after about 25 minutes of using. I hate this thing. DH bought it and I don't see anything special about it. It does break down into a smaller cleaner but I don't think it's worth the money. |
I got this Shark Navigator: Shark Navigator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum ? QVC.com Check out the review...they're awesome! It's super light too. |
I loved my Shark steam cleaner but it broke and DH bought a highly recommended Haan...I hate it....I'm going to let him to do the housework... |
