Husband suggests a flea & tick collar Do you know where I can find one in my size? After I walked the dogs this morning, I found a tick on me. It was different then any other that I have seen. Looking it up, I found out it was a Lone Star tick, female. They have a little white spot on their backs They do not carry Lyme disease but carry another disease which can cause a whole bunch of other problems! |
Grosssssssssss! :eek: Maybe you could find that flea and tick collar with a little bling too. You must look fashionable while repelling those nasty things! :D |
Ticks have to bite and be attached for 24 hours before disease is transmitted through the wound, unless you squish them trying to remove them. |
It didn't bite me. I felt something crawling on me and cremated the bugger in the kitchen sink. |
I used to burn them but last year, I started drowning them in alcohol. I left them for a month or so before tossing them out. Just in case Magnus/Zoey got sick, thought it might help to have the tick for the vet to look at. I used advantix II but it didn't seem to help so I made a habit of running my fingers through them every time we came back from walks. And any time we're watching tv, I just run my fingers through again. Those buggers attach themselves in odd, unexpected places. |
LOL - I get the collar idea! Did it just freak you out to find that tick on your? I once felt one on me and went nuts! I felt a tick crawling on my arm once and went nuts trying to stay calm enough to get the thing off myself and get it flushed down the toilet. That was only the beginning of my paranoia, however. There followed on hours of searching the house all over, vacuuming and washing everything that wasn't stuck down, including the dog. Poor little Jilly got washed, then gone over with a fine-tooth comb more than a few times the next few days and then I'd look myself all over again. I honestly think I might have worn a flea and tick collar and doused myself in tick powder three times a day given half a chance I was so paranoid. Ticks are the worst! The idea that the things suck your blood with their gruesome head under your skin just freaks me out! Finally, I figured since we had just come in from outside when I felt the tick crawling and only found that one, that's where it came from. And as we neither of us were hosts to another one, I finally settled down. But I think I was pretty close to wearing my own flea and tick collar. ;) |
Ewwww ticks are sooo gross! Last yr I had the worst experience EVER. Went to Gettysburg this past year for Memorial Day with the family. Took Jackson like we always do. We decided to do a walk through the battlefields, about 2-3 miles or so. We left and went out to eat at an outdoor restaurant and I look at my stepdad's shirt and he has like 3 ticks crawling on him. I was like OMG and helped pick them off. Then one crawled out of my HAIR! Then I start spotting them on Jackson. I kinda felt something crawling on me, lifted up my jean pant leg and there's one on my knee. AHHH. Omg we left and I immediately stripped down and I flipped my pants inside out and there was like 7 ticks crawling around IN MY PANTS!! In the end, my step-dad probably pulled like 20 off him (they weren't attached yet tho, just crawling), I pulled like 10 off me, and easily 20 off Jackson. They just were never ending. Hours later I kept being like 'oh, there's another one' on Jackson. Even the next morning, I found 3 more. The groomer came a week later and found 2 more on him. GROSSEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. OH GOD. I am still itchy. |
