Netfilx, Hulu plus or Roku? What do you guys use, what are your thoughts? We are really trying not to get cable TV. Way too expensive. So far an antennae is working for us, but would like to try out some extra programs. And we finally got our internet! Yay! |
I've had Netflix for several years and have never had a complaint. I'm not a fan of Hulu and have never heard of Roku. My son and his family have Hulu, so hubby has access to both. He prefers Hulu. It would depend on which service offers more of your viewing preferences. I understand that Amazon.com is supposed to have a streaming video service, if not now in the near future. |
I have netflix and Roku. Of the 2, Netflix has more choices. Too many of the Roku channels still require a fee or you have to have a cable package to view certain programs. The nice thing about the Roku box is that it allows you to access both Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime. |
We have Netflix and Hulu (both are crummy). We also have cable (forced to with out internet, it is Comcast so also crummy). Netflix/Hulu works for us bc our TV doubles as the monitor for our desktop computer. |
I have netflix but only the DVD service. It good and I always have 3 disks at. Time to watch. |
We have netflix and roku. We just discontinued our cable so we'll see how it goes… |

When I move out, I plan to hopefully only have these streaming programs, as I hardly watch cable anyway. I have Netflix streaming, Hulu and Amazon Prime. I also use HBOgo but I use a family members account. We all tend to share too - so my stepsis pays for the Hulu every month and I pay for netflix and we give each other our log ins. It really depends. I love netflix because I enjoy finding old shows to binge on, or even older movies. The netflix streaming takes forever to get new episodes and new movies, so that's where Hulu and Amazon prime come in. And then brand new movies I tend to just go rent at redbox. |
So Hulu gets stuff faster? I will check out Amazon also. Is there anyone who uses Netflix with a Mac? I keep getting a message to install Silverlight plug in. I install and update my browser and it still doesn't work. I am so frustrated. so far I hate Netflix again. I will try Hulu. |

Have you cleared your cache? I had to do that before I could watch Hulu for the first time - nothing on video until I did that. |
OMG FINALLY! Geez I hate technology. I had to update Safari, Chrome, and Firefox to find out what worked. Finally Safari works with the silverwhateverbullcrap. I had to restart my computer but now the fan is running overtime. I will try turning it off and having it rest for the night. Now the Xbox is another thing! I got it to connect with the wifi but not it's being a bitch about logging into the acct. Did I mention how much I hate technology?! |
We have cable and the only way we could get DogTV was through Roku. I find it all so overwhelming anymore that I usually just have a couple favorites to watch and I don't go looking around. The only exception recently was when I went hunting for DogTV. It took 2 days to work out all the kinks in that! |
I have to have cable......I cannot miss a Bruins game...and we tried Roku but there were so many additional costs to add on programming it wouldve been the same as having cable. maybe a bit less but still it adds up. My dh is home all day and sometimes all he can do is watch tv. |
I really like Netflix, had a problem once and their customer service by phone is terrific. I get the stream. There is not much on cable that I like all that much however, I would miss a few things and since I just bundled to get a better price I guess I'm with them for awhile and I'm happy. |
We have cable. But I also use our Roku sometimes to use my Amazon Prime account, where some stuff is free. I never use Hulu etc even though it's there. Canceled my netflix a couple years ago. |

Normally I use the chrome browser but for some reason it wouldn't work for Netflix. I do have an older Mac.book but it's not THAT old. It's running OS 10.6.5 |

Netflix is cool but it takes a long time to get shows. You can watch tv shows on Hulu the day after they air. They have been getting worse with commercials though :( Still if I had to choose one I would choose Hulu. We got apple tv, it has apps for tv channels and you can rent movies, it's kind of cool. I recently found the anime channel on Hulu and I'm loving it :D |
so far we are doing the one month free on Netflix. Still haven't check out Hulu. I will check out chromecast. We are thinking about getting a new tv soon. My laptop is so old that an hdmi cable wouldn't work. |
Amazon is so wonderful. We have amazon prime which cost I think 80$ for the whole year and with their video streaming we have access to tons of free shows and movies (admittedly my reference point is primarily childrens shows) and can purchase or rent movies usually for a nominal fee which then stay forever available in our library- no scratches or skipping (again with the kids- big deeal at our house). Love it. More variety available than Netflix, foreign film and subtitles are available. Can't say enough. |

Ok people who have Amazon Prime. I just joined for the 30 day free trial. ALL the shows I'm interested you still have to buy the episodes. I think that just sucks and was too good to be true for the $99/year and free two day shipping. I'll try Hulu Plus too but so far not liking Prime. |

Still liking Netflix the best so far. We did end up getting a new smart tv. Pretty cool how you can do all the Netflix, etc without hooking up the Xbox or whatever, but bf doesn't like the picture quality. It's an LG. May return for a Samsung. |
