In case anyone's wondering. :(

I don't think I'll replace it with a Win 8.1. Not liking the reviews I've seen.

My daughter is thinking of replacing hers and is undecided as well. One thing she is sure she is going to like is the new ones are so much lighter in weight.

Are you thinking of a Mac?

Well I wasn't wonderin :D:D:D - but too bad on your puter - I'm waiting for mine to give me more signs before I give up XP ..isn't that terrible of me?

You may find one with W7 on it.

My son used to buy and sell computers and he is my go-to guy now that he's all growed up. Actually I may just get his laptop to replace mine.

It's a real p.i.t.a. trying to do what I need to with just a cell phone!

I'm with you - no way can I do anything on a cell like I can my laptop - my kids were so proud of me just a few years ago when I finally agreed to text - I just didn't have the need or want - and I still suck at it lol

Omg, what a total pain!!! I was kinda wondering why you'd been a bit more quiet lately. What are you thinking of doing, getting a Mac?

At this point I'm really not sure what I'll replace it with since I'm very much in a tight spot financially still. Aren't Macs normally more expensive?

I do think you can find much more reasonable deals w/ a PC/Windows. I'm a diehard PC girl -- I cannot do Mac at all...my brain gets really stressed out bc it's just too different from Windows/PC. A few years ago, I had to get a new laptop too - and I got an Acer (a small one)...I really like it and haven't had a single prob with it so far. Prior to getting it, I had Admin look over all the specs for me bc Admin is my tech guru; it was approved :p. Maybe go to a Best Buy or similar and check out a bunch in person to see what feels right, then watch the sales?

I got the message that Windows XP is no longer going to be supported after April.....instructed to upgrade to Windows 8....have NO idea what this means, but EVERYONE I have talked to say this version of Windows is nothing short of a disaster.....my mentor that does my website for me, is having a terrible time doing anything with the site now....cant even get on to update pictures and messages....do I have to change from Windows XP? Is my computer screen just foing to go blank in April? Maybe I can just stay with Windows XP forever? I dont understand what the issue is....why did they change what was working just super?

I wouldn't touch Windows 8 with a 10 foot pole. I still remember this video from a month or so before launch:


I have been using Linux for 15 years and every other operating system seems so limited in comparison once I got used to all the standard UNIX tools and the bash shell (of course in addition to the GUI).

Microsoft has had horrible user interfaces in Windows as long as I can remember. Funniest was the file manager in Windows 3.1 and 95 that wide enough for about 8 characters in each filename to be displayed so that it was such a nightmare to browse.

I have W Vista and I pray that I won't have to get a new one until Microsoft comes out with an improved os. I looked at W 8 and found it very confusing. I don't text - don't know how and do not want to learn. Can anyone tell me what the Microsoft commercial song lyrics are? It drives me crazy - I don't understand one word that the woman is singing!

Right now I have about 400$ earmarked for a new laptop. Hopefully I can hold out a little longer and increase that amount. It's driving me crazy that things (like uploading pics to YT!) are so freakin hard from a phone! I've spent about an hour now trying to post some new styles...I give up. :(
