Does anything buy things in brick & mortar stores? So today I saw some New Balance running shoes advertised for $40 that seemed decent, so I went to the store to try them on and they were crap. Found a nice pair of Asics that felt incredible to jog around in, but they were $90 + tax = $97. I wanted to buy them but also thought I'd check to see if I could find a better price, as ~$100 is a lot for a pair of shoes. I went home and found the exact pair online for $67 and free shipping, plus no tax. A couple of weeks back I wanted to get a Google Nexus 7, 2012 model, as it's always such a waste paying top dollar for the newest computer hardware. I always like to buy something one year removed from top of the line so I get 90-95% of the performance for 40-60% of the price. So at Best Buy it was $200+tax = $216.50 for the 16GB version, whereas online I bought it from Newegg for $170 for the 32GB model. I wanted to buy a nice book on electricity and magnetism since I dropped out of a physics major in college but still love the subject (wanted to add a computer science major instead then though). $115 American edition new in the bookstore, but imported a British printing of the same edition of the same book of the same quality printing for $26 used in almost perfect condition on amazon. God I love the internet; it's so cool seeing how much competition there is for your dollar when you can shop around. Only time I can say I got burned was buying Royal Canin off amazon, where one of the bags didn't seem as fresh as the ones I get at Petsmart. Seriously, Petsmart must be the only non-grocery store that I ever shop at. |

LOL, why did "anyone" get autocorrected to "anything" in the title above? |

NewEgg is great about having low prices, our home theater subs are around $600 a piece NewEgg had a special sale for $215 with free shipping so we get 6 of them... 3 days later they were at the house. |

I hate buying things online, especially clothes and shoes. I just can't be sure if the quality, size, and color are going to be what I wanted. I also like being able to pick my own pattern layout if buying printed items and check the face on any dolls/collectables I buy. I'm the annoying person who pulls them all out to compare. I do check prices before buying stuff and am guilty of showrooming. |

I *love* buying on the internet too! I buy everything I can on the internet so that I don't have to go out and shop. I do still do Target runs bc there are always little things I need, but otherwise I get most everything from Amazon. |

It's so true. You can almost always get a better deal if you go home and shop online. I just ordered an iPhone 5s on Ebay for $125 less than you can get them in store. It is brand new (never used), so it's totally worth it so wait a couple days for $125. |

Online only shops are killing mom and pop brick and mortars, and big boxes as well. Esp in the bike industry. People come into a shop and get personalized info, fitting, test rides, etc. Then they buy online. We not only have to keep our prices super competitive but also give in person customer service. It's hard. I try to buy from brick and mortar mom and pop shops exclusively, but you can't with everything. Sad to say in the future it's all going to Walmarts. Though I have to admit I do buy antiques from ebay. They are still generally small shops that sell on ebay as well. Going to antique shops in person is very overpriced. I know they have more overhead, but ebay fees are not cheap either! |
