3M - magic hooks?? Has anyone had any experience using the hooks made by 3M that don't hurt walls or furniture? I would like to hang garland on my mantel (swag-like) and don't want to ruin the woodwork OR put any kind of holes in it. The swag will be good size with lots of bows and decor on it...... Are they strong enough to handle it? |
I use them every year. Just follow the directions closely and don't hang anything on the hook until its had time to set. |
I've used them too and have had really good luck w/ them. Maybe to be on the safe side, do a little test spot in an area that's down low and on the side or something? |
Thanks! I will give them a try this year... I always wonder if the "sticky gel" that holds them to the surface is very strong. |
I have one on the back of the bath room door that holds my heavy bathrobe and another in my shower that I hang a towel on when I shower. After a few years the one on the door fell off but I just put a new adhesive on it and its as good as new. The only place it didn't work was on my metal front door and the wreath fell off the same day. So all in all I have had good luck with the 3m products. |
I've used them and they work great on woodwork & cabinets. They also work well on my walls, but it always pulls the paint away from the wall...doesn't pull the paint off the wall, just away from it, so you can see where they were placed because the paint is raised almost bubble-like. I have plaster walls in my house, not sure if that is why? |
You must read the directions very carefully, especially for removing them. I put one over my powder room mirror to hang a small Christmas swag on. It worked great but when taking it down I was in a hurry and yanked to hard on the little strip on the bottom that you pull down to get it off. The strip tore off and so for three years it is still there because I don't know how to get it off now. Once in awhile I keep thinking I will call their help line to find out what to do but have not gotten around to. If anyone knows what I should do I would love to hear it. |

Donna mine did the same thing. I grabbed a pair needle nose and lifted up the end carefully and grabbed the sticky and pull. It will come off. |
