I just went through ALL the posts!!!!

Hi all,
I just finished all the post since i'm so behind.
I have made several changes this past month, Dr. said either you do or you won't be here long.

So for me i have no choice. But thats okay because i'm going to do it. Now that we have this great thread and all the suport it should be much easier.

I have lost 10 pds. but that does'nt count cause i already had lost it before i seen this.

So I'm at 152 thats where i'm going to start. I'm 5'4 and 46 years old.

Good luck to every one we all can do it!!!!!! :) :) :)

Muffie's Mom 02-06-2006 02:54 AM

Welcome! We are so glad to have you with our group. There is a lot of good information on this thread if you'll just use it. :)

If you would like to post your weekly stats on the stat sheet to be sent to each one of us in the group, please PM Jaspers Mom (Glad) and she'll be more than happy to help you. We don't post the stats for everyone to see.

I'm glad to hear that you've already lost 10 lbs on your own. ;)

Send a post and let us ALL know what you did to lose that.

This is called Lifestyle Changes and it IS for a lifetime. It isn't temporary and it's for dieting. It's to get healthier.

Would you mind sharing with us what your health problems are? I think it's good for others to know what can happen to them!

Keep up the good work and again - welcome.

Jaspermom 02-06-2006 04:27 AM

Let me clarify!

Pat meant to say, "It's NOT for dieting". This is a healthy eating change in your life. For the REST of your life. We are learning to change our eating lifestyle to keep out the bad foods that make our bodies unhealthy.

Welcome, Mary, Sketters mom! I have your stats, and you are added to the chart, along with new members I Luv My Pups (Melissa),YTsirk27 (Kristy), and Munchkinsmom (Lynn). I am very very excited to add all of you new folks to the chart, and am very proud of you all for making the choice to change your eating lifestyle! Congratulations!

LOL, I did wonder if there were language issues happening here! :) Thanks so much for understanding that we are working on eating for health. You are right, we do agree that exercise is an important part of being healthy, and eating healthy is the only way to good health!

I appreciate you! :p Thanks again for your input, and for being so sweet!

Hey Glad! That's for clarifying that "typo" for me. I thought I proofed that but must have missed it! That's what happens when you get to my age! lol

kara 02-06-2006 06:59 AM

Sorry, I am late.

The last couple of weeks have been so hectic with all my different house guests..... I get rid of 1 and 2 more show up............... :p I lost 2 more so I am at 161 lb. It has been really hard b/c you know when you have guests you go out to eat alot.... But I have been trying to be good. Anyway I have been walking everyday-Matise loves it. But it would be great if I could add just like 2 more hours to the day to get all that I need to get done in a day........... :p As the days pass it is like I have less and less time and I am more and more tired..... Well one thing I have to look forward to is that at the end of this month my husband and I are going to visit his family, they live in Ecuador. I will get some down time, but little Matise has to stay behind :( He is staying with a friend- I know she will take care of him but I will still be so worried- nobody cares for your little one like you do ya know. And with Matise having been so sick, with his shunt and all it is going to be really hard to leave him. We were going to take him but there is so much bacteria-you know in the water and stuff and it will be SSSOOOOO HHHOOTTT we decided it might be to much for his little system. I mean I am very, very careful when I go there but I still get travelers sickness. The last thing I need is for him to get sick in a another country, so far from his vet and all. Anyway I have written a Matise care manuel so hopefully she and he will be ok, no unforseen events... :)

Jaspermom 02-06-2006 12:31 PM

Congrats on the weight loss, Kara!!

Kara, great job on losing weight despite eating out with your houseguests! That takes will power, girlfriend, and you're doing well! And nice job walking for exercise. Really, if you have no time or energy for anything else, walking is really great! And of COURSE Matise loves it! It's quality time with MOM! :p

Don't worry too much about your little furbaby while you are gone. I am sure he will be just fine. Have a wonderful trip! But we will be in touch before you go!

PAT! Do you have any "Traveling and Eating Healthy" tips for Kara?

Here's to Eating Healthy For Life! You're doing a great job, Kara!

golfwidow14 02-06-2006 01:08 PM

I started my diet one week ago today and I've lost 4 lbs so far!!!!!! :D

Here's to Eating Healthy For Life! You're doing a great job, Kara!

I think that I just posted something in the past week in regards to traveling and eating out.

I'm very proud of how good Kara has done with all that company and having to eat out so much. Good job, Kara!

The walking is very good for you also.

As far as eating in a foreign country, I'm sure Kara is already aware of it. I think she mentioned she'd been there before.

Tips for Staying Healthy in a Foreign Country

Avoid unwashed fruit and vegetables.

Avoid swimming in fresh water that could harbor disease.

Wash hands frequently.

Do not drink the tap water unless you know it is safe.

Be aware that ice cubes may be made with tap water.

Be cautious about dairy products.

A good "travel healthy" medicine kit for traveling in the United States or overseas includes:diarrhea, upset stomach, or heartburn remedies like Pepto-Bismol

constipation remedies like Metamucil®

decongestants/antihistamines

motion sickness remedies

antibacterial soap like Safeguard®

skin cream/antibiotic ointment (for cuts and scratches)

first aid supplies (bandages, gauze, adhesive tape)

sunscreen/suntan lotion

insect repellant

soothing, non-alcohol-based lotion (for insect bites and sunburn)

vitamins

thermometer

duplicate pair of eyeglasses

any prescription medicine that you are taking

I havent really tryed, I just set my mind to doing what i know i have to do.

After the Dr. chewed me up an down i knew she was right.

I came home and started drinking water. I cut myself down to two sodas a day and just drink water. I thought if i cut the soda to just two then after awhile i could cut it all the way out. Im working on it.

I was a very heavy smoker i just limited myself to one pack a day, and if i ran out i just ran out.

Foods, i knew alot of the proper ones because my husband is a diabetic. He is on 4 shots a day plus meds. BUT THE MAN WONT EAT RIGHT. So be it im going to eat right even if he wont.

Then i had another Dr. appt. and the nurse said "well Mary you lost 10 pds"

I didnt think i had lost anything. I didnt feel like i had, but now im like WOOHOO im on a roll so i need to keep doing what im doing.

I guess the menopause/hot flashes is really what made me strong. I thought for sure if i did all this they would stop or at least let up. But they havent.

Untill thay get my b/p under control and i stop smoking Dr. wont give me anything but this like sleeping pill. All it does is knock me out. Which is good cause i hadnt had much sleep in months.
Now I think my body is used to it and im starting to wake up more at night.

I dont know, all i can say is im giving it my best and i feel like mother nature is not workin with me ha .
Oh i have pm'd Jaspermom. Shes one awesome lady!!!!!!!!!

Everyone seems to be doing pretty good also.

SO KEEP UP THE WORK EVERYONE! :) :) :) :)

Sketters mom...I have a sick husband who won't eat right also - I'm subjected everyday to him eating all sorts of good stuff - what I do is have my salad and Lean Cuisine and leave the room when he eats - it really helps resist temptation if you don't smell the food.....He used to care how he looked and felt.... but since becoming ill - I guess food is one of the few joys left.....I take some of the blame because I do ALL the shopping but I just can't say no to him when he askes me to get him Chips or Nuts....I try the Baked Chips and he just won't eat them :(

GOOD LUCK !

Jaspermom 02-07-2006 04:53 AM

Well hooray on your weight loss! That's GREAT!

Villette,
I know what you mean. He does do some of the shopping, But i guess he just doesnt care anymore. Hes 5'6 at 213. Its all in his belly.

I hate having to fix his food one way then fix mine another.. If i fix a good healthy meal he will eat it, then 1/2 later hes into snaking. He doesnt know how to limit, hell eat it until its gone.

But i'll take my food in the other room to " right in front of my computer lol"

Kepp up the good work Vill... hopfully this will get easier.

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hmmmm.....so you ARE cooking healthy and he IS eating healthy but then snaking on junk.

My question would be "Who's buying the wrong food to snack on?" :)

Im like Villette I sometimes cant refuse him..

Well I hear what your saying, but if he goes he will come home with all this junk. And im not talking about a small amount. its close to 40/50 $ of junk.

How do you tell your husband NO!

:) :)

Hmmmmm... can you "accidently on purpose" take the checkbook with you? lol ;)

Does he really not care? I hope he does care and wants to live to get to an old age.

I think he just needs to really "get serious" with this healthy eating. He can control his diabetes IF he eats accordingly.

Did both of you go through the diabetic class at your local hospita? If not, call the dietician and see if they have a class to attend.

Okay so my weight is pretty much staying the same..but i'm wondering if me losing 40 pounds over the last 7 months had anything to do with it?

Hi! Go back a few posts and there are a couple posts about "plateauing". That should help you. :)

Muffie's Mom 02-07-2006 06:46 PM

I'm going to "be in the background" for awhile in the "Lifestyle Changes" thread.

I have posted just about everything that comes to my mind so if there is anything that anyone needs information on, please post on the thread and I can research it for everyone.

I am thoroughly enjoying helping everyone. I've been able to reach so many people and it really touches my heart to see so many people want to do the "right" thing! That's wonderful. We'll never know if we might have saved someone's life!

Please keep up the good work, keep exercising and keep eating healthy.

If I don't answer immediately, you'll know that I'm "walking to nowhere" on the treadmill again!

Good luck and God bless you all.
Pat

Jaspermom 02-07-2006 07:36 PM

Challenges!!

Hi, everyone! I asked all of you to tell me what you were all doing to challenge yourselves to eat in a Healthy manner this week, and most of you responded, THANKS! I thought you would all benefit by seeing what your Healthy Eating Partners are doing!! The names have been deleted to protect the innocent!

You are all doing really really well!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!

Drink MORE water. I seem to always forget that.
I am also going to start going at least 3times to the gym.
************************************************** ********
My challenge for this week is to get out and walk...whether it's only one night or everynight, anything would be more than I'm doing now.
************************************************** ********
Ya know..I have added fruit and whole grains to my diet..and i just don't seem to be losing anything!!! I even added A few veggies...I've never ate fruit or veggies..so i figured they'd be really good for me!! I also have tried to stay away from anything fried!
************************************************** ********
Well I gave up my pasta and French fries with cheese, and I’m going to try and exercise more, been slacking on that. been so busy with the wedding coming up it’s really getting hard. I did buy a bunch of healthy choose frozen dinners.
************************************************** ********
Friday was my oldest daughters 15 birthday and she wanted a tres leche cake,,,,,,, oh yeah. Well, I did very good. I had a tiny tiny taste. And I was ok with that. But I sure was put to the test on Sunday,,,,,, We had a packed house so needless to say, we had the works here,,,,,, tri tip, ham, mac/salad, shrimp pasta. baked beans, rice rolls,,,,,,,, oh man we sure did over due it with the cooking! But I did very well. And I totally made sure everyone packed a to go plate. I did NOT want any left overs sitting in the frig!
************************************************** *******
my challange for the week is to cut down the powdered creamer in my coffee by HALF.
************************************************** ********
Im just trying to keep my mind focused
on the fat content, and drinking water, water, water.
************************************************** ********
exercise….no soda’s this week.
************************************************** ********
I lowered the amount of my portions and been eating salads all week for lunch

Muffie's Mom 02-10-2006 04:03 AM

This is all wonderful. I hope everyone keeps up the good work. I'm proud of you! When I said that I was going to be in the background, didn't mean I wasn't eating HEALTHY and I AM STILL reading the thread. I hope that everyone sticks with this and continues doing such a great job. Don't forget to watch those portions, drink LOTS of water and EXERCISE!
