Ok, the high heel surfing is goofy and just people having fun. I'd like to see the guys try it. :D

But the other thing is disturbing! I don't understand the need to do this to your body. Guess I'm just an old fuddy-duddy. :p

I agree that the high-heel surfing is all in good fun, and the other thing is gross.

Teaching in a mostly affluent high school, I see what happens to those overscheduled kids. It doesn't stop until they get into the best of colleges, and even then it continues. Many of the parents are overscheduled too. With all of the new technology available and the lives people are leading, it's a wonder how many families even talk to each other. Love and attention would get these kids much farther in life than these play counselors. I find this all so sad, even though I chuckled when I first saw it.

Very good point, Lisa. I think this applies to kids in all kinds of communities. When my brothers and I were young, my mother wanted us involved in every activity at school, church, and local sports programs. Her intentions were good, but my father, who worked long hours, argued that we needed more time at home to just be a family.

I agree, Kristin. I set high standards for myself and worked like crazy, but that is who I am. I just don't remember the external pressure when I was younger than I see today. I talk with these kids and see the pressure they feel to always get the best grades, to be in the most clubs and commitees, and then to try to keep up with all of the social pressures from peers. Even their cellphones create enormous pressure and stress for them. I listen to them, and my heart breaks. It would be wonderful if they (and their parents) could put their cell phones away to spend time really talking. I don't want to change the intent of this thread, but your link brought up something very crazy in our society. I understand that parents want what is best for their kids, but they need to really listen to their actions and their feelings to see if they are indeed happy.
