Ok I have to state my opinion....Zimmerman is responsible for that young man's death...regardless of what he had in his system, or what he may have done in the past. Zimmerman pulled the trigger that ended Trayon's life and should be held accountable. I'm sorry but I don't agree that he should walk free.

Oh, he won't be free....that's for sure. He knows what he did .. people can tell me all day long about what Trayvon said and did, but no one knows for sure if it is true. What we do know for sure is that Zimmerman was the first aggressor...he was stalking Trayvon. That came out of his own mouth.

Maybe there was not enough evidence to convict him, but he will never feel safe again after this...so free is only in respect to not being in a jail cell. He will walk, but always with a worry about who might be following him. He has himself to blame for that.

Even if he did not mean to kill him, why was he stalking Trayvon...Zimmerman was clearly the aggressor, he was told to leave the young man alone...yet he continued to follow him. ...at the very least he should have been convicted of manslaughter.....the fact remains that he pulled the trigger, thus ending this teen's life....where is the justice in that he walks with no conviction? Trayvon may have been 6ft and whatever weight, he was still at minor at 17yrs old....IMO an injustice to a life that was taken!

I definitely agree with Britt, Yorkiemom1, and Yorkiemimi. Mistakes were made by both Zimmerman and Trayvon. It is tragic that a 17 year old lost his life, and that Zimmerman will have to live with the results of the incident. The jury has spoken, so if you believe in the American system of justice, we should all accept the decision - or appeal to a higher court. However, NO ONE knows the true intent of Trayvon and Zimmerman or what was in their hearts and minds in the heat of the moment as the incident took place.

And now the Federal Government is going to get involved....I can only wonder if Travon had been "an innocent white child", and Zimmerman had been acquitted, would the justice department be all interested in "justice"....I sincerely doubt it. If the justice department wants to actually get involved in miscarriages of justice, they need to go camp out in Detroit (I keep saying Detroit because they had a documentary on TV that I watched....it is absolutely criminal what has been allowed to destroy an American city), and get involved in all the innocent children that are murdered daily. Where was the "justice department" when Casey Anthony got off scott free for murdering her baby girl? Oh thats right...no crowds of people, taking to the streets, setting fires and vandilizing property, in protest over the horrible injustice that innocent baby suffered. Oh well.....I am just very fearful where this country will end up when "justice" is no longer determined within the judicial system, but in the streets, dictated by mob revenge. We can set out possies (sp) again, and start hanging people from the nearest tree!

I guess the jury never did see any proof beyond a reasonable doubt that one guy stalked the other and that being the case, the defense gets the presumption of innocence. Just because police or a witness says stalking took place isn't enough to send a person to a life in a 7 x 10 pen where he won't last 6 months before he's tortured and killed. Stalking usually has to occur in a pattern of harassment over a period of time to qualify as the kind of stalking that is against the law. And following a person to see what they are up to is not illegal - I've done it! More than one. That jury had to have irrefutable evidence beyond any reasonable doubt that one stalked the other and the shooter never was in a reasonable fear of his life or serious bodily injury. The State just didn't have that irrefutable evidence.

Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor of some note, criminal appellate lawyer, political liberal with no apparent dog in this fight and prominent scholar on United States constitutional law and criminal law, is saying that the State's Attorney Angela Corey could be cited for violating George Zimmerman's civil rights because he says she filed a false affidavit in front of a judge in order to get a second degree murder charge, failing to tell the judge there were photographs and to show that in the photographs George Zimmerman's nose had been broken, that he had wounds on the back of his head and that she misled the judge into giving her an overcharge second-degree murder charge against Zimmerman. Professor Dershowitz says that is a true violation of civil rights by a State law enforcement officer upon a U. S. citizen.

Thank you for posting this link and this very informative bit of information. Wouldnt it be something if continuing to beat a drum over this verdict, and trying to declare an infringment on civil rights, actually turns up even MORE evidence that propells Zimmerman into the light, on the right side of justice? It may turn out Zimmerman may come out 100% ahead of the game if it turns out HIS civil rights have been trampled on....errrr, HE does have civil rights too, correct?

In this world we are going to have tribulation. At times there is no clear answer. No one was there to witness this killing, no clear evidence was brought forth. My heart hurts for Trayvon's family, they lost a son. His sweet mother called on the Lord for His help. I know she will receive comfort and peace. George will not have that in his life. He will live scared which is sad. Wise people think before they react and I wish George would have got back in his car and observed the situation. He would have had peace.

He said he did not continue to follow Trayvon. Do you know how easy it is to die from having you head whacked against the pavement? Would it have been the same way if Trayvon had killed George that way? Minors can fight and kill just like and adult.

I don't think Zimmerman will come out ahead ever, in fact I think he will be murdered at some point; and if he's anywhere near a decent man he will die a little every day for what he did, even if it was somehow justifiable morally and legally. I know that if I were patrolling my neighborhood and following someone acting suspiciously, somehow a scuffle put my health or life at risk and it ended in my killing that other person, I'd never ever be the same or really enjoy life the same ever again. But in a life-or-death struggle, no matter who started it, I would try to save myself, even if it were a youth. I don't think I could just lie there and get beaten to death, no matter how justified the youth felt they were because I followed them or even if I jumped or incited them somehow. I'm just being honest. And I'd live a very sad life after that but work hard to make some kind of amends in every way I could.

I am not saying Zimmerman should've got off scot-free, or is totally innocent in this, but, obviously this neighborhood has a crime problem and people were (rightfully) already very wary in general. Zimmerman already had the frustration of losing a snooper because police took too long. A week later, that snooper and a friend rob a resident. That would be frustrating to anyone, I think. One of the burglars isn't arrested. So a couple weeks later he sees someone who maybe matches the same description acting suspiciously. You can't necessarily blame him.

My sister got so exhausted and ill from no sleep and fear, she was too ill to even visit her husband in the nursing home for a time and he took a turn for the worse without her daily visits and he stopped eating, had to be tube-fed, got an infection. Burglaries and break-ins can create terrible, long-lasting problems when they start in an area and sometimes police are too busy to do much until it gets very bad. My sister could have been killed had she awakened when those people were in her house. She'd have reached for her gun I'm sure and they probably would have beaten her or killed her. Many of those neighbors carried guns and had them at the ready as they patrolled during that time because they openly discussed it with her when they called and told her what all was going on. One of the items stolen from my sister was a golden church pendant my brother in law has bought my sister for a church he'd funded in a remote Mexican village through their church in her name. It meant so much to her and she loved it.

From what I understand Taylor, he did continue to follow him...that would make sense bc had he not continued to follow him, Trayvon may still be alive today.
Yes I do now how quickly one can die from a head injury....and yes I know minors can and do kill....Zimmerman approached him....he was the aggressor, he pulled the trigger....the aggressor pulled the trigger...that's all i'm saying....a young man dead at the hands of his aggressor....he may not pay for it with jail time...but he will pay, he has to live with what he has done....Trayvons family now has to live without their son...bc Zimmerman killed him.

I don't know where any of you live, but I do live in Florida, and Sanford is a rough town. I have lost 2 family members, to killing, and being strangled in Sanford. Both my family members are white, the people that killed them are black. Now with that being said, the Apartment complex is terrible. Not only cars getting broke into, sex offenders, breaking into houses, peeping toms, everything. It is so bad they needed to have a person, which Zimmerman was appointed to be the neighborhood watch. I don't have someone watch over my neighborhood. I live near a school. But that area is bad. George had called in so many things before all this happened, about kids, people looking like they all wanted to do something. 17 year olds these days, in Sanford, are not innocent. Not in Sanford. Why the whole world had to get involved, I don't know.........Unless YOU live there, and know how bad it can be, you have no idea. My kids had to go to school in Sanford. Fights all the time. I am not saying I am glad he is dead, I am very sorry he is, and for his parents. But he needed help years ago, and never got it. Both sides suffer. Travon's parents, and Zimmermans family. Life will never be the same.

More than 40 people have been shot in the city of Baltimore since the end of May. Nearly 150 since the beginning of the year. Most of these black on black crime. Why are we not outraged over this? Why does this not get media coverage?

She was brutally murdered by 2 punks (who were black) over bike parts. She was a defenseless, innocent girl with no history of any kind of trouble -- 12yrs old. She was brutally beat and killed and stuffed in a ******* trash can.

This was 2 black boys who could have stolen a white girl's bike but instead chose to BRUTALLY MURDER her. Where was justice in the media? What celebrities showed support and tribute to this little girl when she was murdered? I don't see Lil Jon, Beyonce, or anyone else wearing a "Justice for Autumn". But if the races were reversed this would probably be considered a Hate Crime. Sorry but racism works in both ways.

Oh and let's see, anyone remember hearing about this innocent young little white boy who was also brutally murdered by two 14 year old black teens. 14!! for no reason? I am not saying Trayvon's life wasn't worth anything, or worth fighting for, but this happens EVERY DAY and I really don't even understand why it became such a national issue.

Because the man walked out without anything being done. They knew who to go to...and if it were your son, Brit, I am sure that you would have used every resource to get publicity and get this tried in a court of law. I know that I would have!!!

I just don't understand why this got So much National attention on the news. Like it has been said on here, Chicago, there are killings everyday. Little kids (12 years old) getting killed over a bike. This is so sad!! Do you hear about it? No!

Too busy with violent crime and traffic problems so citizens are feeling more and more left to their own devices, I guess. My sister just lives in a small upscale bedroom community near Dallas where a lot of lawyers, doctors and a couple of NFL players live and her police department told her they could do nothing but what they did, make a report for the insurance company, park nearby during the day at time for a while and that sergeant privately visited her on his own time. But her police department was fine with neighborhood watchers following suspicious youths out walking around in the neighborhoods - encouraged it as they also didn't have time to do more than they did when it was quiet.

I am glad though that there is going to be a lot of conversation about race and attitudes of stress between the races. There is still so much outright racism in America and a lot of fear between the races. I hope some common ground and something good can come out of this tragedy that finds a kid dead and his killer as good as dead.

I am so sorry for your family. There are tragedies every day in this country that devastate our citizens' lives but sometimes attention is just given to one case if political leaders/media/celebrities think it can get them some votes, readers/viewers/fans and PC points. Doesn't seem fair but even if you had been a squeaking wheel, if the right people that the media want to cover don't get on board with your squeaking, nothing comes of it. You could blow your wheel up and if the right types don't want to rush to your aid for their own reasons, they won't. Not fair but that is the culture we live in now - media driven. Again, I'm so sorry for your and your family's loss and pain.

Were their killers arrested?

My heart breaks for you and your family. I am so sorry YOU and YOUR family did not get crowds of angry people that are soooooooooo justice minded, that "all they want is fair and equitable justice for one of their own." I am certain YOUR family members were TRULY innocent and doing no harm to anyone....there are those of us who may not walk in your shoes, but we clearly understand MOST of the circumstances and events in that area, that led up to what happened to Trayvon.....I have a couple of friends from work, whose families live in and near Sanford....and they have echoed exactly what you have said. "Unless you live there, you have no idea how bad it can be.....". These are the people that told me they pray "now that now the trial is over, all the history about this "innocent child" will come out....there is no innocence here....and the people of that community are under seige."
