Destination Weddings in Hawaii So, after ~9 1/2 years my bf finally proposed to me while we were on vacation in wine country 2 weeks ago. We've always had our hearts on getting married in Hawaii, but I just don't know where to go! We've been to the Big Island and Maui before and they're both just beautiful. Anyone ever been to a wedding in Hawaii or perhaps chanced on a great location while on vacation? |
I think your spectacular engagement picture is mandatory. :D |

Congratulations! We were married in Hawaii in 1995, before a lot of information could be found on the internet. I looked in the ads in the back of Bride's magazine, there were many wedding planners there, contacted some wedding planners, and went from there. They all had packages, ranging from the bare minimum (minister and help with getting the license) to very extravagant (all the bells and whistles, everything you can imagine including performers and the attendance of "The Big Kahuna"). They also had a choice of venues, some free, others for a fee. Find a planner, they'll know all the ins and outs and all the prettiest locations. https://www.google.com/search?q=hawa...hrome&ie=UTF-8 https://www.google.com/search?q=hawa...w=1231&bih=812 FYI, I don't know if the laws have changed, but in order to get the license in Hawaii I had to show proof that I had been tested for Rubella antibodies. There was a form that my doctor had to sign. They did not require you to get the vaccine if you had no antibodies, just counseling so that you would be aware of the risks should you get rubella while pregnant. |

I'm getting overwhelmed when I google/bing it. I'll look for a planner to help out. |

Yay, wine country! CONGRATS!! I think the first thing I would ask is how many you're planning on inviting? I believe that a few places in Hawai'i regulate sizes for destination weddings. My cousin got married on one of the islands on the beach and there was a max size of 50. Other places are more, others are less. I second getting a planner. :) |
Oh, another thing I forgot. The planner met with us two days before the wedding to take us to get the license. She took us to someone's house and we did it there. Apparently in Maui (don't know about the other islands), they have people that work out of their home that do the paperwork/filing for marriage licenses. Kind of odd, I would have expected to go to a government office, but it sure beats taking a number and waiting in line. |
Congratulations!! I don't have any advice, just wanted to give you my well wishes. I'm sure it will be beautiful! |
I am so happy for you. Best wishes always. :) And, love your engagement pictures. Wowzers! |
CONGRATULATIONS! Duh, I couldn't see your intended in the 1st photo (thought it was the balloon dude, LOL!) Had to go back and look again! Haha. How sweet.... will be waiting for the wedding pics! Gorgeous pics of the engagement! WOW! |

Wow, congrats!! That is spectacular. No advice on the destination wedding but I do know you can find wedding planners in your area who specialize in destination weddings and will travel with you and help with all that, as opposed to finding one there on the island. How exciting. I'm not even engaged yet, but we picked a ring and I have a venue picked already ;) Congrats again!!! |
