Police Shooting Dogs - This NEEDS to stop! (Warning: Disturbing Video in link) This is disgusting and disturbing and wrong. Hawthorne, Ca Police Kill Dog(1) - YouTube (the shooting does not occur until around the 3:17 mark if you'd like to avoid that) And I hear of it happening FAR too often. Police killing dogs and most of the time it's not for a valid reason. I completely understand that a police officer has to defend himself, and protect the people, and sometimes unfortunate circumstances happen where, yes, the lives of people simply have to come before dogs... but there was NO justification for this. The man was not a hardened criminal and was fully cooperating (he was videoing on a public street, NOT a crime...) and the dog was not even in 'attack' mode... moments before he was shot, he was sniffing the ground calmly. He initially started barking yes when they arrested his owner, like most dogs would. Ugh, just sick... It's just sickening and disgusting. Something needs to be done. |
:mad::mad: No words. Please take Brit's warning though. If you are sensitive about this type of thing, stop watching before it happens. I am able to see animas in pain, etc. but this was nauseating and extreme. |
I can't watch, but I read the description. There is no justification for this. |
I saw this video earlier today... Horrible. I started crying. I just don't understand... My male would have done a whole lot more if he saw me being cuffed than what that rottie did... |
That just brought me to tears....there was no reason for this at all!! |
Yet another case of an innocent animal dying for the stupidity of it's owner:cry: It's not really the cop's fault if you know the whole story. |

And not even shoots him to kill quickly. Or to disable him. But to shoot him in a way that the dog suffers greatly in front of his owner. How is this the owner's fault?! This is another trigger happy cop that needs to be reprimanded. These are the people that we are to rely on for safety? Not all cops are good guys. |

I feel sorry for the dog. But if you watch the video the Police tried to grab the dog leash. Dunno if a big dog is trying to bite me I may tazer it first then shoot. But they were already pumped up from having a bank robber or someone cornered? So IMO if I have a big dog or even a little dog I'm not going to be there where there could be potential shooting anyways. I 've been attacked by big dogs you feel scared like s**t. I would shoot the dog. Sametime the Police shout have just told them to leave. But you could hear what they were saying? Or I couldn't? They may have told him? |
Wasn't the dog was sniffing the ground? How is that a threat to the cop? The owner was not the bank robber. He just happened to be there. |
The police told him numerous times to LEAVE. He did not live near there, he just stopped to lookie loo and was blasting music from his car and yelling about the cops being there to violate someone's civil rights. if I was a cop and a huge dog lunged at me, you bet your ass I would shoot it dead. That guy, if he cared about his dog at all, would have LEFT when he was told and his dog wouldn't be dead now. |
No one wins With all the new anti-gun equipment that taxpayers supply to law enforcement one would think a taser or some other method would have been available to them before shooting. I want officers to be safe but in hind sight and Monday morning quarterbacking I think there was another way to handle this without killing the dog. Because this video has now gone viral this only feeds hostility with law enforcement. I have received this video about a dozen times from friends. This is another situation where no one wins. Very sad. |
That was a horrendous video. But what I will say a lot of the blame goes to the owner. 1. He had a Rottie on a Flex Lead. Shame on you. 2. He goes on walking around and videotaping, in what would be a tense situation, almost to me like he was asking for a confrontation with the police. Again Shame on him, for not getting his dog out of a potentially dangerous situation And yes I saw at one point the Rottie did go aggressively forward to the police officers. But it could have been avoided if that man had left the scene with his Rottie. How-evern on the police officers part how about Tasers? I will tell you as a large dog owner, if I came into a situation with police all around, I would hightail it out of there. Magic would re-act and strongly if some man tried to get me down on the ground. They don't know police officers from felons. |
So so sad. And it was uncalled for. |
And btw the sniffing on the ground after the Rottie jumped out the window, was a delay tactic. He was gathering his courage and deciding what to do. |
I wont watch it. But I seen pictures that say it all. Really is a sad story. Cops are getting too trigger happy these days. Shoot first react later seems to be the new way to go. |
