17 year Cicadas
 
The 17 year cicadas in Virginia are out in full force and making the worst racket all day long.

How long do these things last? Do they go all summer?

Oh yuck! I heard about that! I love the Cicadia sound in the summer, but I never actually see one. I couldn't imagine them everywhere like that!

WE have stinkbugs now.... alot of them... they are awful.... make me want to stay indoors all the time, they gross me out, soooo ugly and they fly! :(

Oh I hate the stink bugs too. We have a bottle of water which we collect them. That way they die and don't stink. It is the best way to kill them.

I don't mind a little Cicada noise, but when there are trillions of them, it is deafening. We can hear it inside the house it is so loud. Some workmen told me this morning that they have seen houses covered with them. Ewww! They told me that this will last about 6 weeks. Each cicada lives about only 2 weeks, but new ones keep coming out.

Stinkbugs are gross.

eww that doesnt sound fun at all.. i fall asleep to the peepers in my yard but im not really sure what they look like or what they are ...my dh always just says peepers.

I remember the last time we had them. I couldn't walk to the car without stepping on a bunch of them. The news said that Maryland will miss them this year... IDK how that works, I thought they burrowed in the ground till it was time to resurface. Haven't seen or heard any yet.:D Really hate stink bugs too.

I have frogs in my backyard so the noise from these wouldnt bother me

Tree frogs drive me nuts. When we first moved into our house, there was an above ground pool that attracted a bunch of them. I rounded them up and drove them a mile away to a new home, lol. We also got rid of the pool.

You should have seen the bag of frogs in my car. I could barely drive because I was laughing so hard at them jumping around.

All I could think of, Here's a brave woman who lives with a trillion disgusting noisy cicada's bugs, scary slithering copperhead snakes, but took the sweet sounds of poor little harmless croaking frogs away, along with their own private swimming pool! Lol

Just kidding, I can't stand frogs either! Eww :D

I dont know how tree frogs sound but your story ids very funny they must be loud. I have bullfrogs and I put them their for our pond as tadpoles. I only have 13 of them but I love the sounds they make. They make like a chirping sound and a deep throated croak sound its neat

When we are in that 17 year cycle, it is so very loud and they are everywhere! From what I remember it only lasts a couple of weeks, but it seemed like forever. We used to have cats and they loved the cicadas or at least they loved hunting them. Yuck.

Oh I love the tree frogs. The sound to me, is the sound of summer! We have tons of them and it's been such a crappy spring hardly anyone has their pool open yet, so the frogs are living under the pool covers and loving life! Chirping away all day & night!

We have stink bugs bad here in Tennessee. They are gross...and STINKY!! :eek:

My cousin lives about 4 or 5 miles away from me and she said the cicadas were all over her house. I haven't seen any....yet. She lives in an area with more trees than I do. One cicada is one cicada too many for me!!!!! I don't like bugs and these bugs are too big and ugly.

Don't mind them or the noise, but I don't like them if I am on the mower..... they are attracted to it and do "body slams" into me while I am mowing! :eek:

Ewwwwwww. They are ALL OVER parts of my area. I mean...their nasty shells are completely covering fences, trees, and some people's yards. LUCKILY, (knocks on all the wood in my house), there aren't any in my yard! But there are a lot of birds in my yard nesting so there are tons of dead ones lying around, dismembered.

Gross to look at but I'm just glad they're not flying around, landing on my head. -vomit-

Also, for some reason...I don't hear them. Must be a silence ordinance in NJ LOL.

LOL! Luckily we are having a cold snap that seems to have slowed down the cicadas. It's quiet now.

The last time these things were out, I remember sunbathing in my yard with friends and the gross little things were flopping all over us.

They must not smell good because my doggies take a quick sniff and keep walking.
