The Secret Life of the Dog
 
This is an episode of what I consider the most interesting show on television: BBC's Horizon. It discusses many surprising things about dogs: how they're quite a bit more intelligent than we give them credit for, how they read a human's face the same way a human does, and many more absolutely fascinating things about the relationship between human and dog. It's a really fun episode

I saw this show and it's AMAZING! Just loved it. So much great info about dogs and how they think/live.

Yeah, it just blew me away seeing the some dogs are capable of abstract reasoning when before the only animal thought to be able to do this was the human. And it was really nice seeing some scientific confirmation that we indeed are correct when we say our dog can read us, that we can understand what he's saying, and so on.

On a side note, Horizon is just a brilliant show always discussing the most facsinating of topics. I think it has been running 50 years now.

My heart breaks for you, your love of little Minnie just jumps out from the pages you have typed. The more you love them, the harder it is to lose them and I know both you and I would not have given up the wonderful time with them for all the money on earth.

I saw this a couple of years ago. It was absolutely fascinating and just what we Yorkie parents have been saying for years. These ARE highly intelligent animals who "talk" to us and know what we are saying to them.

:) It has indeed....we do get a few intelligent/thought provoking programmes 'over here'....amongst all the rubbish....;) :D

Another wonderful series was (and I'm sure will be again!!!) Paul O'Grady's 'For the Love of Dogs'. It's set in Battersea Dogs Home in London (just about the biggest rescue in our Country), and I'm sure has done more for rehoming/rescues than anything has ever done.

If only there were more programmes like this, every day, all year round.....:) Sally x

Our TV is almost entirely rubbish in the US. The one somewhat equivalent we have to Horizon, PBS's Nova, is often re-narrations of Horizon episodes... as if Americans can't watch a show narrated in British English. Most of our previously interesting networks, such as Discovery, The Learning Channel, and the History Channel, have become entirely crap reality TV. Must be nice to actually have something interesting to turn on over in England.
