TV's as monitors? Lately I have been obsessed with creating an office in our home.. Got the desk, and most of the necessities. But now looking for a big monitor to display on from my laptops.. I looked and a Dell 27" costs about 1K.. and I see I can get a 32" TV for around $300.. Is anyone else using a TV as a monitor? I would love to hear feedback on brands, resolutions, etc. |
Gosh, I never heard of doing this but it sounds really neat and very affordable. I hope you have good luck getting what you want and I'd love to see picts when you have it set up. Very cool idea!! |

Oh it's a trick I learned from working in IT :)) I'll have to take pics when I find me a monitor and share :)) I have a very nice desk I bought from Office Depot for about $300 that is U shaped. And I have 4 laptops between my Hubs and I so I also bought a VGA switch so I dont have to constantly plug in devices to the monitor :)) but you can plug any laptop into a tv with VGA or HDMI cables. I do this often when sharing photos from my laptop to tv when friends are over :)) Much better view on the 55" |
Yes, this is how we watch Netflix. Our tv is the MacMini monitor which is actually a Sony Bravo TV. |
Home we both have our own desktops, one laptop for traveling or work and to the tv we have a mini desktop connected. We use network homegroup sharing to communicate with the mini desktop and watch stuff on the tv. |
We used to have to a 32 inch TV as one but then we switched our entire house over to Apple and use two 27 inch Thunderbolts in the office. |
You can do that with all the new TV’s I've seen. The only problem I can think of is that a monitor gives you lots of options on tilting it for a better angle. |
Yes you can! My monitor at home is a 32" TV I use as a monitor. Just make sure its either LED or LCD, you should be able to connect an hdmi cable and it works great! |
Yes! I play alot of British tv shows, & streamed Arsenal football games on my laptop, and I hook my laptop up to my 55inch big screen with a HDMI cable to watch them. Works great! :) |
We use our large screen as a monitor for our security cameras. As long as the right port is there, I don't see why you couldn't. Especially for the savings!! Ps. Our Tv actually had a comp port that uses the monitor cable |
We use a large screen TV for a computer monitor for watching Netflix or Hulu. We don't have cable or satellite (personal choice) 'cause we simply don't have time, but when we do want to watch the "boob tube" we use our computer as our "provider". We have an old laptop that is dedicated to the TV. |
