Snake vs Thrushes I was pouring my coffee and looking out the kitchen window a few minutes ago when I saw two Woodland Thrush birds fighting with something. It was a huge black snake! The snake looked like a cobra as he tried to strike at the birds. They fought for a few minutes until the snake slithered into the vinca under my deck. I have never seen small birds go after a snake, only hawks. Now I'm going to worry about that snake, harmless though he may be. |
Also is that the proper plural of thrush? Or is it thrushai, or simply thrush. I'm never cleaning out the vinca again, or any other plant in the yard. Eeek! |

Rats scare me to death. I have encountered big ones walking around on the sidewalks of DC and Chicago. Although the black snakes here are harmless, they still make me jump. I was picking up sticks in one of our stand of trees in the yard once when one of the big sticks started slithering. Of course, I screamed and ran like an idiot. :D |

I checked my video camera and found that I managed to capture one still shot of the snake and birds . . . although I failed to get the video. Attachment 386083 Attachment 386084 |
How neat is that, I wonder how the birds know the snake isn't poisonous? Very brave birds you have. |
Dad thinks the snake was trying to get into the birds' nest in our holly shrubs. |

Had one that size last spring climbing a tree to reach a robin's nest. The birds were on the roof of my shed pitching a fit. I went to see what all the noise was about, then grabbed a rake and got the snake down. Sadly a storm hit the following week and I found 2 baby birds dead on the ground.:( |
A snake is a snake to me!!! Right up there next to spiders!! Ugh  |
