I have Skye Terriers along with my Yorkies. In the past I've had Cairns for years & years as I showed/bred them, Old English Sheepdogs, Fox Terrier & Pekingese. I must be a glutton for punishment as they're all really hairy mutts needing lots of grooming. I would love to have a Maltese, a Chihuahua & an Italian Greyhound ( no grooming!!! :) ) Would never be without my first love, Yorkies, though. |

In no preference order; 1. Kerry Blue 2. Irish Wolfound 3. Irish Water Dog - I think that is their name 4. Afghan 5. GSD 6. Saluki 7. Papillon |
I answered this earlier but totally forgot my number 1 pick. #1- Shiba Inu I actually almost got one when I was first looking for a dog, they don't shed too horribly and are SO freakin cute but they are hard to find. Sad part is I would probably have to get one from a breeder :( Maybe one will come through the shelter some day, you never know. BTW@Verbena- I would LOVE to see an Irish wolf hound and yorkie together :D |
I would love a bigger dog. I'm working on DH now to get one. I want a Dobbie, but I'd like a German Sheppard also! I would love a Border Collie, but I don't have the energy to work them out as much as they need. Would just love a dog who LISTENS! LOL |
I imagine I'll be hung up on Yorkies always. Not too interested in looking at other breeds. |
Number one on my list is a Biewer. After that: German Shepherd Doberman Cavalier King Charles (although I wasn't aware of their heart problems!) Samoyed |
I forgot one on my list! Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have always loved their look! |

Females can be smaller than males, maybe 80 to 100 lbs. Big males can push 140 lbs. But but but, females in this breed can be a bit shall I say more dangerous then their big bros. You want two stable very important here breeding pair. And on the plus side, they don't need the high octave exercise of a GSD and a Doberman. But any breeder worth their salt of BRT;s even with pet owners will and should insist on CD level of obedience; quite simply we don't want out of control dogs out there. These dogs are not for the first time working dog owner. And neither are the Dob or GSD. I have encountered both breeds, with less than a savoury experience, as a dog owner. But that is just my experience. What concerns me is that both the Dob and GSD have a rather large prey drive, and you will need to be super alert when bringing in a Dob or GSD pup at 8wks old that will outweigh your Yorkie by at least 2x their weight or even three times. You will need to crate and separate and closely, very closely monitor interactions with them. Please don't allow play between the two. I about have a heart attack each time my big boy, initiates the play bow before Razzle. I am out in a flash to the backyard. And of course that immediately changes the dynamics As both boys focus on me, to do the play. With an ill placed paw, Magic could kill Razzle inadvertently. Our last training session, with two toys on the ground beside me, I inadvertently said release when both were in a down stay' and both went for the toys! My heart was in my mouth! It was my fault, not calling out their individual name to release. So, so quickly things can happen. You should crate the large dog at night, or conversely crate the Yorkie(s). You want to have a restfull sleep. And your Yorkies need to be safe for the night. |

You should get a BRT! While they require the same amount of training and constant socialization, they can do very well with 40-50 minutes a day of walk time. They were bred to be with humans in the guard and protect mode. Traditionally they do not have a huge prey drive, but a huge protect drive. They are usually good with other animals, dogs, cats, parrots, etc in their home. These animals quite quickly become part of their pack! But with all these three dominant breeds, you do need to be un-equivocably the master. |
I have always wanted a Great Pyrenees. Lately I have been reading about the Caucasian Mountain Dogs. The are HUGE. |

Hows the maintenance on them? Grooming and such? I wanted a breed that needed less maintenance. Part of me might go back and get a German Short Haired pointer someday. I had one growing up and he was our boy! He was just an amazing dog all around. A lot of energy though. |

Well in grooming, sorry to say but this is not a low maintenance breed. At least a good weekly brushing out to the skin, and either you groom or take him/her to the groomers every 2 months or so. |
I would really love to have a second dog but living in an apartment is not an ideal situation for that. My desired breeds: 1. Cavalier King Charles (love their personality but not too excited about heart issues and shedding); 2. Biewer Yorkie; 3. Toy Poodle; 4. Boston terrier I love the small breeds :) |
