Hoarders I just watched three episodes of it while cleaning, and they were horrific! I wonder how people get that way. Very sad. |
I watch it all the time. It's a sickness. The episode last night almost made me puke with the lady with the stuff in her fridge. I seriously had to turn it off. Hoarders creeps me out, it's why I watch it. I know, sick. |
I watched it a couple of times myself, awful...will never watch again, woman was hoarding dead cats....uggghhhh I have never understood why the exploitation of seriously emotionally disturbed people is entertaining let alone they make entire shows about...it sickens me to see these people so exploited, my heart goes out to them. Same as Jerry Springer et.al. the rest of them types of Reality shows, they are nothing but exploitation, IMHO. |

A friend of our family did that it wasn't dirty and she would sell a lot of the stuff but would buy right after to fill it back up. |
I am sadly fascinated by these shows. I think through my life and people I have met and now realize that I have been in a few hoarders homes. (Not as bad as the shows on TV, though.) I just thought it was odd that they had paths through there house and no where to sit. My neighbor friend is a psychologist and specializes in working with people that are hoarders and she says it can be really tough for some people to get rid of stuff. I guess there is an emotional attachment to these things. |
These people collect things because of some underlying, unfulfilled need. It is a sickness, like alcoholism. They have to want to change in order to do so. My grandmother is a hoarder. Looking back on my childhood, she started 40+ years ago. My mother, her daughter, didn't realize how long she had been hoarding until I pointed out things I remember as a child. I didn't have a name for it then, but knew it was a problem. Several years ago, my extended family got together and cleaned out her house (a rental), and put my grandmother in assisted living. She checked herself out within a month, rented another house and started over. She turns 90 this year and a couple of the family go to her house and clean every few weeks. It really makes her mad, but it is the only way. The only saving grace had been that now she can't see or hear well enough to drive or restock from QVC. |
yup a severe depression and the things help they fill the void. very sad to live that way and the children of the home suffer great lengths also..i mean they cannot even have any friends. i try not to watch anymore its just heartbreaking. |

I've watched it a few times and it's SO sad :(. I feel terrible for these folks. I've heard/read that hoarding is one of the most difficult illnesses/issues to treat too...it almost never is treated successfully. Sad. I think it's good to get awareness out there too, and give people hope for the possibility of change - so I do think these shows can do some good for people and society. |
