We're being visited by a baby Wallaby! I got a call yesterday from a lady who raises Wallaby's, monkeys, and horses. Her & her husband are in town for H.I.T.S (which is a big thing here in horse country). Anyhow, she saw my business card in Joann's. She wants me to make pouches for her so that they can carry the babies around. I'm sort of excited to meet the Joey...never mind the pouch making! I'll try to get some pics to share with you all later. :) |
OMG!!!!! HOW UTTERLY ADORABLE!!!! Please send pics if you can!!!! |

4 Attachment(s) Walter was the perfect gentleman & when it was time to go his owner dropped the pouch low enough for Walter to hop right in! I of course, fell instantly in love with Walter. He was "talking" as he was hopping around the living room. Sooo cute! |
These pictures are totally amazing! You must live in a very special place. |
OH My!! How cute is Walter!! You must have had a blast with him around! Thanks for sharing pics with us!! :) |
How cool is that ! |
omg... Sherry that is the neatest story. I think it is great to can add to your experence "pouch making for wallabies":):):) |
Oh how fun, Sherry - love the pics. They are so darn cute!! |
Oh I love those pics! What a cutie patootie!! |
Apparently, Florida allows people to own them with proper permitting. "According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Web site, a wallaby owner must obtain a class III wildlife permit, which requires the owner to fill out a questionnaire about the animals care. The permit is free and is the same class permit required for raccoons, opossums and skunks." Read more: Wandering Wallaby Loose in Florida | Fox News I'm not so sure it'd work for me; they require a LOT of care. He sure was adorable though & I hope he comes for more visits. I learned a little about them from his owners. Did you know that you can break their ribs by picking them up around the middle? I nearly passed out when his owner picked him up by his tail but then he explained that to me. Walter was very talkative once he got down on the floor & had a look around. He makes a loud clicking sound that reminds me of a squirrel. For those of you wondering, I kept the dogs in my bedroom while he was here even though he's just a baby joey still. :) Did you see those toenails? |
OMG!!!! I WANT A WALLABY!!!!! Isnt that just adorable!!!! Bless his heart....does she raise them to sell to people......(NO! I am kidding about actually wanting one!!.....) or is she rehabing them? |

oh my that is so cool, I was wondering how the pups reacted so I was glad to see you post what you did with them. I got a kick out of the diaper, your pouch looks perfect for him. I bet you are the only designer on Yorkie Talk that can add Wallaby pouches to their resume:D |

Thanks but the pouch in the pics isn't one I made. They'd brought him & the pouch so I could get an idea of what they want. Theirs is actually a small cave bed that they added a strap to (by poking a hole & tying a knot!). Mine will have duel adjustable straps so that little joeys can be carried by their very tall dad or shorter mom while staying horizontal. |
Just seeing this thread Sherry!! OMG how cool and I am so jealous..my fav animal since childhood :) So precious. |
love the pics....walter is adorable...i would not want to have to trim those nails though!! what an amazing experience!! |

Mine too! I must have sounded like a blubbering idiot on the phone when she called me originally "oh!...awww!..how sweet is that?" LOL |

Talk about nervous! Who wants to get thumped by a critter for cutting into the quick? Not me, thank you very much! |
2 Attachment(s) Here's a couple pics of Walter's new ride. I'm not sure what to call it since it's 1/2 cave bed & 1/2 carry pouch. :) I think it turned out pretty good considering all I had to work with was a few pics & my own noggin. It's made so that there are no inside seams for him to chew or pick at. They're coming back tonight to pick up the new pouch. That means I get to see sweet Walter again! :D |
Amazing! He is so adorable. Good job on the pouch. |
oh that new pouch came out great, I think they are going to love your design, hopefully they will let you take another picture of Water in his new ride |
Here's an album that you all can share with anyone; even if they don't have FB they can see this album :D https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=9a120ca115 |
