Exciting night in my neighborhood last night! So Last night hubby and I were vegging on the couch, just started watching a recorded Survivor when suddenly there was a rapid fire 8-9 gunshots. We live on a dead end road, few houses, very quiet usually. The dogs went nuts barking and we decided to turn on the police scanner app on the iPad. Hubby said it was firecrackers. I thought no way. So on the scanner we hear the dispatch say that 3 calls came in about gunfire on our little dead end road, so we didn't call. At almost the same time another call came in for a bloody guy who walked into the Bugaboo Creek restaurant down the street. Luckily the 2 were unrelated. We later heard on the scanner the guy was drunk and had a hand injury and they couldn't find his car. But about 15 mins later, 1... 2... 3....4... 5 cruisers pull onto our road. After 10 mins, 2 left and 3 stayed. I told Hubby maybe we should get their attention and tell them we heard it to, maybe we'll be able to help. So we went outside and stood on the front steps. We see 6 cops on foot in the dark walk down the road, 2 came down our driveway and asked us if we heard anything. So we told them what we heard and they said they would have a look around the neighborhood for awhile. They were gone for a good 45 mins towards the end of the road. But we never heard anything on the scanner after that, except that they all cleared our road. I guess it was nothing they could find .... but they were pretty stealthy, no flashlights, no headlights, no flashing lights, in their dark uniforms you could barely make them out and if you didn't know you would have never known they were there in your yard checking things out. So weird! That kind of freaks me out. I mean the cops in your yard, fine, but the fact that 6 of them could be sooo quiet and stealthy means that 6 not so good people could be in your yard without you even knowing it also! SCARY!!!!! |
They could have found something and just wanting to keep it on the quiet. With police, you never know what they might be dealing with and they often won't tell the public to prevent a perpetrator of a crime with friends on the block know what evidence they might have found or just somehow someone passing along info they don't want known generally. Could you have heard a car coming and going from that area or is it too far? Of course, it could have been a person on a bicycle. If they couldn't find a body in the dark or anything else suspicious, could just have been teenagers or something shooting a gun in the air. But if you see vultures or something circling today......... Whatever it was, it sounds scary. I'd have probably had trouble getting to sleep wondering. Let us know if anything else exciting went on. |
Oh if I find out I'll follow up! :) It was nothing that we could see.... they left, on foot, 6 of them back to their cars with nothing. They did not come back. Nothing else went down, it was all quiet. We do occasionally get hunters, but we are not far from the city so there is not really GOOD hunting grounds on our road. I do hear gunshots occasionally but it's usually a single shot, this was 8-9 in rapid fire, which is weird. |

jes u in the bronx?? glad everything turned out ok but maybe you need to motion lights in the yard so you know when someone is sneeking around. |
Yeah we put them there and they don't work for some reason. I never got on DH to make them work so 3 years later, they still are hung there and useless. Maybe I need to get on him to do it right! LOL I live in a quiet dead end neighborhood, but its nearer a large city.... but not that close. LOL |
Well no wonder Fletch was hiding in the sheets at the foot of the bed. He was "laying low". :) |
We live next to a farm where the boys like to play with all kinds of guns, so we hear gunfire regularly. It is still very unsettling. I can imagine how scary it would be to hear when it isn't expected, and then to see police on your property. Eeek! Definitely get your motion activated lights working. |
