USPS service changes Well, it took them long enough... Postal Service to say goodbye to mail delivery on Saturdays - Business on NBCNews.com I've been saying for years that USPS could save a ton of money if they'd switch to every other day delivery. Looks like they've decided to nix Saturdays. |
well with the amount of daily loss hopefully it will help soon we will not be able to afford to mail anything if they rates continue to increase. |
They can hold on to my bills a little longer. I don't mind. :D |
I saw that on the news this morning. It doesn't surprise me at all. We are in a rural area and have a small post office 2 minutes from my house. I stop there all the time on my way to work. We got a survey in December, they may be closing it :( I can be in and out in literally seconds and the big PO in town is always at least a 15 minute wait. :(:(:( |
This is the beggining of whats to come. Soon the only thing that will be mailed is taxes and other official state and government items. The reality is there is a decreasing demand for postal when you have e-mail and online account management. |
The only bill I pay via mail is property tax. I email letters, invitations except for thank you notes and the occasional card. I haven't bought stamps in so long I can barely remember the last time. But I get the biggest stack of mail you ever saw, all of which goes in the trash except the bills I get through the mail and one or two others things. I get enough daily junk mail to build a papier-mache house in about a year or so. Wish they would relegate that stuff to once a week delivery if they have to deliver it. |

We may be facing the same problem Michelle. It is sad because it could mean people losing jobs. My area already has enough of that going on. |

Bumping this thread back up because I saw this article today: Postal Service considers price hikes - May. 10, 2013 Seriously...why on earth would Congress stop an action that would benefit nearly everyone? I really don't understand why they would do this. I personally feel that Congress should butt out. I've said for years that USPS should go to a 3 day a week delivery system. I know that would entail some job cuts but at the same time I've noticed my local PO has recently expanded their workforce. |
The government does not pay USPS for any mailings. Change that and you wouldn't have to consider dropping days and price increases. |

OR, since government-run businesses (USPS, DMV, Dept of Homeland Security, etc) are awful, make it private. Maybe then things will run like they should, lol |
Well, Saturday mail delivery is "safe" for now Postal Service backs off plan to stop Saturday delivery - Apr. 10, 2013. I would much rather see 5 day delivery and no price hikes. IF JUNK mail was charged regular postage rates, think of the $$ the post office would make. I don't receive any "junk" from UPS, FEDEX, or any other private delivery service. :questione I know I'm not a rocket scientist, but if UPS and FEDEX are private carriers and they are profitable, then maybe, just maybe the postal service letter delivery should be privatized OR they should charge all customers equally. |
