Cruise Recommendations? So my siblings and I recently found out about a life insurance policy our parents took out in 1961. It's a very small policy, but it will be about $1600 or so a person between the 4 of us. Now our parents have been gone for several years- it will be 10 yrs next month for my dad and 17 years in March for my mom. This little policy was quite the surprise, so we decided it was a little gift from mom & dad and we should use the money to go on a vacation with just the 4 of us siblings. We're thinking a cruise sounds pretty good, but none of us have ever been on any. Does anyone have any good cruise lines they can recommend? |
Princess is geared for the older crowd, Celebrity is geared for the laid back 30+ crowd, Royal Caribbean is for everyone and Carnival is for the partiers. Those are the big ones. Where would you guys like to go and for how long? |

where are you thinking of cruising out of? the port of call? and where do you want to go? I do not like Carnival.. cheezy .. the last cruise we went on carnival and it was so crowded and yuck I would recommend a European cruise .. or Alaska cruise are a must!!! Lisa... sugarmamma is our cruise expert. Pm her and she can tell you about the caribbean mexico cruises oh... we used Holland american cruise line.. very very nice. Be sure to get a balcony |
I'd love to do a Mediterranean cruise one day, but depending on where you are flying out of, airfare can be as much as the cruise! For $1600 each you can do a very nice cruise starting from the USA. We are doing Allure (royal) in march for $1300pp w air, and we got a balcony. First time for me to have a balcony! Oh also want to add, I agree don't like Carnival. Did Celebrity once, loved it! Food is so good. Royal is nice too, little cheaper than Celeb. |

We went on a princess cruise to Alaska. Loved it. Princess is the best line I think. Now I don't like to fly, so we took a train up to Oakland, bused over to San Francisco, spent the night there and took off on the cruise. Alaska is so gorgeous, if you have never done this one, do it. The ports are nice and clean, we saw glaciers, eagles, whales. I highly recommend this cruise. |
I agree...I never would go on Carnival. Not interested in booze cruises... LOL |
I LOVE Celebrity myself. I have never had a bad cruise with them. |
i've only cruised on Carnival and Norwegian. i agree with the others that i wouldnt cruise with Carnival again. i did Love Norwegian though. My favorite cruises were to Alaska and to Hawaii, but have also done many carribean cruises and those were fun too :). |
I'm just left wondering, WHO likes Carnival then? LOL |

Cruise What about river cruises, US or Europe? Small boats, less people and no seasickness! What a nice surprise to have that windfall gift. |

My dad's been on every major cruise line, and he said Carnival is the only one when you order more than one app or entree at dinner, the waiters try to talk you out of it or sigh and roll their eyes. |
Yeah, it's not a fun party it's a drunk-of-your-socks party... not interested in being around that AT ALL...especially at sea!! Come on people, what if there was an emergency and you're too drunk to wake up? :/ Do you think a crewmember is going to track you down and drag your drunk butt up? HA! |
Funny too how I"m just reading a thread on that forum about how they are worried about spring breakers on an early March cruise. I think that line has got the spring break mentality all the time! |
I love Royal Caribbean, the food was excellent, the ships are so nice, the staff was awesome... I loved everything about it. My Dad, who is 61 loves Norwegian Cruise line and has been on at least 10 of them. He did say that he likes Royal better, but they are more expensive. I think you can great cruise prices for any cruise line if you are willing to hunt and be flexible with your dates. Look for incentives too, like onboard credits and such. |
This past November, I did a Carnival cruise with 15 other people. It was out of Puerto Rico and went to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Bermuda and St. Lucia. It was a great cruise, we had a lot of fun. What I loved about Carnival was there was no pay restaurants, so we ate in the dining room every night just about. They did have a drink package you can buy, but limit the number of drinks you can have per day on it, and the drinks are smaller than if you were to buy ones at the bar. It definitely must have helped with the 'partiers' because we didn't see anyone on the cruise ridiculously drunk. I've heard horror stories, but our Carnival cruise was nice. The staff were GREAT, so funny and friendly. We only had 1 day at sea our whole cruise, so maybe people were not drinking because they were always gearing up for the next day at another port. Im telling you we were gung-ho for the first 4 days, maxing our energy out, by the last 2 ports, we barely got off the ship! LOL Anyways, it was a great cruise. The dining room food was absolutely top of the line, but the buffet food was just ok. The ship was colorful and open and there were plenty of 'adult only' areas to get away. |

But, the thing is, I worked on ships for 3 years...so I'm particular. :D |
ha ha... the carnival cruise I did was out of Miami in the month of July. It was crazy..in a bad way. I am not sure if I already said this, but I felt sorry for some of the mid-westerners .. the cultural shock of a party cruise , in summer, out of miami. yelp...bad. I don't know what I was thinking.:( But.. I love cruising. I would like to do one of the river cruises. Of the ones I have been on.. Alaska was the best |
