Maltese vs Yorkie Hello my name is Hannah. I've been looking in to adding an addition to my family. I've been considering three breeds. Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese or Shih Tzu My dilemma is I want a baby who will follow me, and never want to leave me. I guess you could say I demand attention and I want a dog that will be just like me, haha. Me and my boyfriend already have a dog and two cats, but all three of them are very independent and don't want to have any type of attention unless they want food or to go out to the bathroom. I want a sweet female who will sit on my lap all the time and sleep next to or on me. So what I'm trying to ask is, which dog would be more loving and more dependent on my attention? |
I haven't owned a Maltese or shih tzu but I have owned three yorkie-Two have been all about their momma the third one loves to be near me but also has an independent exploring personality...she loves every one. I think it depends on the individual dog. |
I have a yorkie & a maltese. I would say my maltese follows me around more than my yorkie does.. But each dog has their own personality regardless of which breed you choose. Good luck on the puppy hunt! I would recommend both breeds are wonderful pets! :) |
I also have a yorkie and a maltese. There both very needy. Maltese require more care in the grooming area. |
I have 2 yorkie girls and i must say that they are my shadows. However one of my girls tends to be a little moody. So like the other's have said it depends on each pups individual personality. Good luck with your search! |
I have three yorkies and I agree with the other posts....it all depends on the individual dog's traits. However, the little boy yorkies tend to attach to the female person in the home. I have two girls and one boy. One of the girls is my shadow, but the other one in more independent. My baby boy is stuck to me like glue. Good luck and I hope you find your next best friends.:) |
I have both that are males. My maltese is very attached to me, demands attention, whereas, my yorkie is more independent and tends to be a loner. |
I can’t really say which one would be more of a lap dog- however my Yorkie Peanut is always near me- he has like 10 beds around the house and he picks laying on me- he is always in the room I am in. He is a male, I heard males can be more “loving” than females, but I have seen really loving female Yorkies- so it really comes down to the personality of the dog in general. I would pick a Yorkie just because there is nothing like them! |
It really depends more on the dog's personality over the breed of those three choices. The dog will choose who it loves "the most" so even if you do anything and everything you think you can to get it to be your shadow, the dog may choose your boyfriend over you. Or it may just not like to be cuddled, coddled, and held. You may be better off getting a rescue that is proven to be a lover and not too independant. |
I love all three breeds, I have two Yorkies, and one of my sons owns a Maltese and the other owns two Shih Tzu’s. Since I babysit them quite a lot, I know my Grandbabies very well. My Yorkies do tend to follow me everywhere; especially when they were younger, I think I can go in another room for a minute, but if I gone too long they find me. The Shih Tzu are great with kids, but I don't think they are as glued to humans as much, even as young puppies they seemed very independent. The Maltese seems more of a lap dog than the average Yorkie, the Maltese would love to sit in your lap all day long, but one of my Yorkies is that way too, his previous owner had requested such a dog from her breeder. Find a breeder you can trust and she will be able to predict the dog's personality with some accuracy. By the way, will you always have the time to hold the dog, what happens 5 years from now, any plans for your future? |
Between the three, I'd say your best bet would be a Maltese. |
Depends on the dogs personality, but that trait will be best found in a Maltanese or Yorkie...not to say a great pyranese won't follow or try to be a lap dog either. |
