Small wedding in New Orleans I know some of you have to be from New Orleans, or have been there before :D My cousin and her fiance have decided to get married in New Orleans next year. They originally thought November, but now have decided on September. My husband and I are the only ones who are planning to be there. We are their wedding party, and their whole guest list :D A few other family members may end up coming, but it will be less than 10people total. None of us have ever been to New Orleans before. We are all from Canada, and in fact, my cousin has never been on an airplane before (and she is terrified at the thought!). Obviously, with just the 4 of us probably going, it will be a very simple wedding. They don't want anything too fancy. They don't want a religious ceremony. Her fiance has been married twice before, and she has never been married. They wanted to go away so they wouldn't have to do a big wedding at home and feel that they needed everyone there. The reason for New Orleans is that he is a big Saints fan and he hopes to go to their home opener  I know nothing about NFL, but as far as I can tell, they don't release the schedule until around April, so they won't pick their date until then. Although, as it will be a holiday for all of us, the ceremony could be done on a weekday, so hopefully it won't be too late to plan things. Can anyone give us any tips? Any places you know that we should contact? Anywhere to avoid? We have been just doing internet searches but it's really hard to know what places are really like through pictures. Basically we are looking for a beautiful place for a very small ceremony, hiring a photographer for some pictures of the day, and probably just a restaurant for a small group to eat, possibly a private room so we can do some toasts :) Thanks a bunch for any guidance we can get!!! |
The one bit of advice I can give you is be prepared for ungodly heat and humidity! September in N.O. is the height of hurricane season and is one of the hottest months in the South! Pack lots of clothes to change into, and plan for the wedding to be indoors! This is coming from a born and raised Southerner, so I have a feeling that anyone north (especially Canada, lol) will feel the heat a whole lot more! Congratulations, by the way, for your cousin! Best Wishes for her marriage! P.S.--N.O. is a FUN town, so just enjoy! |
Thanks for the reply!!! I was looking forward to November because I can handle the temperatures lol. When they decided to change to September I was a little more worried! I get heat stroke quite easily, and when it is too humid, I feel like I just can't even breathe. But they decided they want it to be hot, hot, hot for their wedding. How much would you say humidity would be adding to the temperatures in September? I can it around 35-36 degrees Celsius (which is 97 Fahrenheit, thanks to google calculators lol). I was in Italy for my honeymoon this summer and it was much hotter than that and it was just awful for me! I can't imagine wearing a fancy dress in weather that hot! |
Another Saints fan...they're my second fav after niners!!! Son of A Saint a youth charity organization just did a beautiful gala fund raiser at a restaurant inn it was si French south beautiful but off burbon yet near it. Do you know where you are planning on staying yet? |
Noooo idea! DH and I are kind of on a budget (my brother also just announced a destination wedding in Mexico next November!) so we are hoping that after the wedding location is set, we can find a hotel in the area by bidding on Priceline :) Lots of downtown and french quarter hotels have accepted some pretty low bids. We did the same thing in Europe and got to stay at really nice places for the same price we'd pay for a hostel! My cousin said her old coworker/friend just moved to N.O. to work at a restaurant... Emerils New Orleans. It looks nice from the website! So she is going to talk to him about it. There is a private room that seats 14 that would work well. At some point she does want to go eat there where he is cooking, so we could maybe make it work for her wedding! But of course, I don't know the location or what it's close to or if the ceremony could be anywhere near! |
Okay she just told me she wants to stay in the French Quarter |
