Medical question I don't know if this is the place to post this... As some of you know I had the plate and screws in my femur/hip removed on Oct. 3. as an out patient. Long story short on Oct. 9 I ended up in ER and admitted because a huge hematoma developed and I required 2 transfusions. My question is a far as the hematoma is concerned. What can be done to help it dissolve? It has become somewhat hard at the incision site and I don't want it to be permanent. The staples just came out yesterday and the doctor said to apply heat with a heating pad which I have been doing since yesterday. If anyone of you wishes to PM me feel free or here is fine. I am so worried it will calcify and it is the last thing I want. Thank you for your advice, experience or any information you may have. |
Praying you get some answers and heal quickly... |
Dyan, my Mom had this happen last year when she had shingles really bad. IDK what they did, but her Dr. sent her to a physical therapist. I think they did use heat and not sure what else. Prayers that you feel better soon. |
Dyan i am so sorry for all you are going through, and hope that you feel better soon |
Isn't the surgeon concerned about it calcifying? If he was, he would probably go in and clean it out. I suppose you could go see a vascular surgeon for a second opinion just to be on the safe side; if not, just keep following up with him if it doesn't get smaller and smaller. |

I appreciate you and Michelle's input more than you can know! Thank you both! |
Dyan, I am sorry you have to deal with issue now. I Googled and found that some people had good results with homeopathic aids containing Arnica, a plant in the sunflower family. Looks like it can be applied topically and taken in pill form. That might be something to look into. I pray your hematoma shrinks and doesn't cause you any problems. |
