Computer and Camera not recognizing SD card!??! I'm SO upset! I haven't backed up the photos on my SD card for over 3 weeks, and I went to do it today, and my computer won't recognize the SD CARD!!!!!! I put it back in my camera, and it won't recognize it either!!! Any suggestions?!? I'm going to be devastated if I lose all of these pictures :( |
did you safely remove it from your computer the last time you put it in?? just a thought sometimes it can become corrupt if not safely removed. maybe try again. and restart your computer first. just a thought hope you get it worked out. |
I had this same issue: Ended up having to get a new computer rather than replacing the card reader in my old one. Put it in your computer: start menu my computer link removable disk open file than the next and they should be there. or Try to put the card in our camera and that use your camera cord to conect to your computer and transfer them that way. If that doesn't work you may have to get a card reader. It has a slot for the SD card and a usb conection on the other end. Try taking it to a friends house and trying it on there computer ! If it workd the problem is with yours. Good Luck! |

I had a similar problem just a few weeks ago and this is what happened and how I fixed it...on the outside chance that you are having the same problem... I put my SD card into my computer just like I always did many times before but it wouldn't recognize it...neither would my camera...my computer is also just a couple of months old and the front of it has several camera card slots. Well...I put it in the wrong slot and it actually cut one end of the little blue strips on the edge of the card by the brass contacts. One of them was crossed over at one end so instead of seeing blue lines with brass behind them...the one in the middle looked like an N...instead of ll. Does that make sense? I gently put the end back in place and inserted the card into my camera and it worked. I still use that card and it's fine but I download my photos to my computer each time before removing the card. |
Or a Computer Geek may be able to get the pics off the card for you. |

im sorry i googled it but got the same answers as to what we are saying here. if you safely ejected im not sure. can you try it in another computer just to rule out computer vs sd card problem?? |
There is also a little tab on that card that you can switch on and off...I have NO idea if that is your problem, but I had somehow flipped that little switch and it had locked the card or something, and it would not work in the camera or the computer.......maybe try flipping that little switch and see if that solves your problem! |

I keep downloading stuff promising to bring back my files, but nothing is working :panic: |
This happened to me, not sure what was the problem, but the pictures were lost forever. A different card worked fine, so my thoughts were the card was damaged. |
We tried everything and gave up :(. I guess I have an excuse to take all new pictures now!!!!!! |

Can you take it to a friends and put the pix on a CD from that computer and then transfer them to yours? Have you run all your System Tools clean-up programs, updated Windows, etc. Sometimes just an update in a program will foul things up on an existing program and then they will issue a patch, etc., things we don't even know about. Update everything again, clean up your System Tools, etc., and do a hard boot. |

I have a mac, but everything is up to date. |
Did you try not putting the card all the way in? |
But you can't put it in and pull it out to adjust it, you have to take it out,let the computer recognize the empty slot, and put it back in, but just short of how far in it would normally go. Like a hair's width less far in... |
