Looksie at my little furniture project I did 4 Attachment(s) I'm not very good at this stuff, but I'm tryin'! I've had this raw wood thingy from Ikea for...oh....let's see, um...about 7 years...? And it's just been raw and and eyesore-ish. I finally painted it, distressed it a bit, and added some metal file thingies. It's not great, but maybe presentable? Does anyone else muck around w/ furniture projects? {sorry the pics aren't great, but I didn't have the best light} |
I love it!! |
This is a terrific job Ann!!!! I love it! I bought a Rubbermaid plastic file cabinet....it was grey in color....I got some black spray paint, and some hi-gloss reddish brown spray paint (these were especially for plastic stuff)....I spray painted a black strip from top to bottom, then immediately over it, I sprayed the mahogany colored brown, then while stuff was still wet, I drug one of those things that look like wood grain through it....It came out looking like wood grain mahogany (I think that is spelled wrong!)and I did the entire grey plastic cabinet...it looks like a mahogany cabinet and I store my dog beds/bedding in it......it came out great for me, and since I am not really artsey/craftsey, it was a HUGE task for me and I am thrilled with it. |
that looks awesome!! great job. |
That looks great, Ann:D Like an antique file cabinet at some fancy lawyer's office or something, love it!!!! |
I love this! I also buy all my dressers naked. I love to sand, varnish, paint, polish it myself. :D You did an awesome job. :) |

Fantastic job, Ann! I love it! |
That looks great! I love it. That inspires me. Now that my kids are gone, I am in the process of redecorating a bedroom. I am doing the distressed/vintage look. I purchased a painted antique dresser to redo and "distress." Well, I got all the old gross brown paint off, but now I'm afraid I will mess it up when I paint it so it's been sitting here ready for me to do something for 4 months now. I want to paint the bottom (three drawers) white and stain the top it's natural wood color, which I think is walnut. Did you spray paint or brush it on? |
 I like how you distressed it! It looks great! I tried to stain an old end table one time and it looked like it got caught in a house fire. I have not tried anything since then. Maybe I will in the future but only with furniture that I will not care if I ruin. LOL! |
I'm not a fan of Ikea's modern look stuff....but I love what you did with this...so classic. And look at how straight & even your metal file thingies are! Great work! |
It looks great!! We've done a couple of dressers and night stands for our bedroom and then distressed them. It's kinda fun to know that you can make something into what you want without too much effort. I'm currently building a collection of photo frames and am spray painting them all white so I can make a photo collage up our staircase. It's a lot of fun diying :D |
Wow...I LOVE it! That's a great job! I would love to have that to put all my sewing notions in one spot. That's so cool!:) |
Very nice! I am not very creative at that kind of stuff. I bought a chair once a long time ago that was painted white and the paint was awful. I repainted it, thats about all I did! LOL One time I sponge painted a bedroom, I was pretty proud of myself. LOL I wish I were more crafty, creative, but I'm not. My mom is amazing though. She had this OLD bureau and she sanded it, painted it yellow and distressed it with white. She took all these wine bottle labels and decoupaged them on the drawer faces. Added some vintage looking hardware and it was unique and beautiful! I wish I could do stuff like that! |

You did a great job! Many, many years ago my mother had just had a table custom made, and when my great grandfather saw it, he told my mother that maybe when she had more money she could get a table that didn't have all of the dents in it. It was so long ago, but I still remember it and laugh. |
I love it! I really like the distressed look in furniture. I have a tabletop Ive been looking at all summer thinking one of these weekends Im going to marbelize it. That weekend never comes though Im such aa procrastinattor |
