Ripping People Off Some of you may remember me posting about a text message I got. It is a text that signs you up for "IQ Power"and charges your phone $9.99 a month. I never asked for this but ended up fighting with the company as they said I did sign up. This happened in June. I immediately contacted Verizon who after three emails, said there were no charges on my account. About a month after that, DH gets a text and it charges him $9.99 from a different company. DH has a phone with AT&T. Contacted AT&T and they said they would remove the charges. I immediately was given a credit even though the charges had not shown up yet. Believe me they showed up the following month. Well guess what? My Verizon bill arrives and low and behold there was a charge for $9.99. They did not take care of it. But AT&T did for DH. This all happened on June 6th. Yesterday, after numerous attempts, Verizon finally agreed to credit my account. Long story short, I assured them that AT&T took better care of their customers. I guess they thought I was getting a little upset. I am telling you about this because apparently it is a new thing that crooks are doing. If you do not have a block on your account then be ready for a fight. If you have Verizon, tell them to block the SMS text messaging. Here is some more info about it. Fraudulent SMS/Text Charges | Rayzurbock's Lair. There are many people doing things like this just wanted to warn you. I am so sick of all these scams going on. I just don't understand how they can live with theirselves after preying on innocent people. :( Also, there is a company calling from California selling ACT prep materials. Somehow they are getting student names and calling parents. From what I hear, you give them credit card info and you don't get the ACT materials at all. Just beware! So much going on. |
Wtf I gotta go check my bill now. I don't look at it closely as each month is about the same but a $10 difference I wouldn't even notice which is what I'm sure they are counting on! |
Ugh, that's awful!!! I have Verizon too, and their customer service drives me nuts!!! Everything from issues with my phone, to issues with the bill :thumbdown |

We do get the text spam quite often, like you won an iPad text back to claim prize. It never says how to unsubscribe but I always text back stop. I have unlmt texting. But still annoying. |
you really wish that people would find better things to do in business than scam innocent hard working folks. thanks for the heads up. |
I just read an article on yahoo and it said if you get these texts to forward it to 7726 (I think that's the number, I'll have to check) to report it. I did just that, but some of them come back as they don't recognize the sender. If they do recognize the sender, you still have to text back ATT (or whoever your carrier is) the number anyway. |
wow... it used to be you were robbed at gun point, now it is all cyber!! I got an email the other day.. it was a spoof of a bank of american email. It said there was a problem with my account and for them to research it they needed my info...I don't have a boa account so it was easy to spot as fraud. I feel so bad for the people who fall for stuff like that. |

I've had that happen too. I have T-Mobile and can't wait for my contract to be done so I can switch to probably Sprint.. T-Mobile is the worst company I've ever dealt with as far as cell phone company. I noticed my bill was about $10 higher this last month. I haven't had the energy to deal with them enough to call them on it yet. Really sucks when you feel that way about a company you're doing business with. |
