Shoes As a teacher I am on my feet all day. I get to wear jeans two days a week as long as I wear a school tshirt. I am a Nike fan and would love to stick with Nike. Any suggestion on a Nike shoe that is good if you are on your feet all day? My friend said shox but there are many different ones. Shox Turbo, Shox NZ, Shox Reveal, etc. My son says Nike Free. Any experience with these? Or should I look at a different brand? All this walking, running, training business is driving me nuts! I don't know which to look at! And what is up with all these cazy colors!! |
I would definitely NOT get the Nike Free. There is zero cushioning in those, they are supposed to be like running barefoot. I have found, over the years, that Nikes don't have much cushioning and if they start out with some, it wears down really fast. I love Asics, they are super comfy, for athletic shoes. If you go to a specialty shoe store, you'll be able to find some good shoes that are good for being on your feet all day, like for nurses and waitresses, etc. They may not be super-fashionable, but they are making the comfy shoes look much better than they used to:laugh: Good luck in your search:) |
I'd find a running/walking shop. they are great for this. They will spend tons of time helping you find some and ten you can walk on an in store treadmill. If you buy them, use them, and then decide they don't work you can return them. It really has everything to do with what works for you. New Balance...and only one or two styles...work for me because .i can't have high arches. |
I just don't think they make trainers like they used to. The first sets of Reebok walkers were the most comfortable I'd ever had...the ones they make today, don't compare. I took my son to buy new shoes when he was last home from college. Bought a $160 pair of Nike Shox...and then the sales guy wanted to sell him a $10 pair of gel insoles to "make them more comfortable" He insisted on putting one in a shoe so my son could compare with/without. He said it definately made a difference and so we bought the insoles as well. I bought a pair of the insoles for myself too.... and put them in my old trainers :D If you find something amazing comfortable, please share....my gel insoles have since lost their cush. |
ASICS. I just got ASICS and they are WAY better than my Nike walking shoes I've had. LOVE them. <3 |
Go to a Fleet Feet store and have your foot analyzed for a proper fitting shoe. I like Asics gel-Nimbus this year. |
I like jambu ... Not an altetic shoe but some nice styles |
I love my asics, you should try them out! :) |
I will have to message my boyfriend tomorrow and find out the kind of Nike that we found for him. He is on his feet all day checking different job sites etc, and I went with him to find him a pair because he needed something comfortable that would be cushioned and help his back. I will have to find out the name of the exact Nike, and I will post it tomorrow. I can tell you that the Nike pair he had vs the Nike style he switched to is literally the difference in night and day! The cushioning difference is unbelievable. Once he started wearing the more cushioned Nike pair, he was sold. He is now on his third pair. |

I know exactly what you're talking about!!! I'm pretty picky, and I tried to find the least bright shoes I could!!! I teach 3 back to back 2 hour microbiology labs, twice a week. My feet were KILLING me! So, I ventured out and bought these Nike Women´s Shox Roadster+ Running Shoes | Dillards.com I've always been a fan of shox, and these did the trick for me! My mom tried the shox and wasn't a fan, so I think its very subjective. |

My daughter started teaching last year and her feet were a mess until she tried a pair of my Merrell's- she is sold! They aren't running shoes but if you need shoes for the other days the Q-form footbed is amazing (the restaurant people use their black clogs, I worked at Sams Club for a few years and I was the only one who had no foot aches) My husband has super wide, short feet and is hard on the insides of sneakers- he wears New Balance for the fit. |
I just bought these and I LOVE them! Nike Air Total Core Cross-Trainers - Women They are soooo lightweight and comfortable, they have good air flow so my feet don't get overheated. I like cross training sneaks the most. They used to not be so mesh or open so my feet got so hot, but these are almost all mesh, so they are very comfy! |

Oh, I so much understand about hurting feet and teaching. Hope you find a comfortable pair of Nikes. (I don't think people realize how much teachers stand up through the day.) For me, Nikes never fit well, so I had to move on to other brands. I agree with some other members, I do like Asics. However the most comfortable brand of shoes I have ever bought are Danskos, which are not athletic shoes, but oh so comfortable. |
Thought I would share what I ended up doing. First let me say that I went to 6 different shoe stores. It has been a wild day. Almost every one of them recommended Asics and said no way on the Nike Shox. The main issue I had was finding "normal" colors. Haha Lime green and hot pink are really in right now. I visited Lady Footlocker, Champs, Finishline, Academy, Dick's, and Shoe Carnival. I did stick with the Nike because that it what felt best on my feet. I purchased the Nike Dual Fusion. Dual Fusion ST 2. After trying on 9 million different pairs. Haha. They have been given good reviews for comfort and two employees told me that was what they wore as well. By luck, one of my former students was a worker there. She stayed with me and let me try on so many different ones. She just kept pulling shoes until I was happy. So, I will let you all know what I think about them after wearing them! :) |
:thumbup::thumbup: Running Room does this... I learned a lot, the shoes have colour codes, depending on how you step... Its very important to make sure you get the right fit. Quote:

I LOVE Merrell's! Every pair of those shoes that I own feel fantastic. I have their dress shoes, running shoes, hiking boots etc... If its not over a 8 hour shift I'd go with these. For longer work shifts I wear Dansko's. They are well know in the medical professions. We can't wear sneakers at work, but I think even if we could I'd still wear these. The aren't cute and they are pricey but they are my go to shoe for standing. I will only wear Dansko's for my 12 hr shifts. I have hardly any selection as far as shoe stores so I'm a huge fan of Zappos. The shoes I order are always on my porch the next day and I just return any shoe I don't like. |

I see alot of people like ASICS, my only problem with them is that they seem to run a little small in many styles, so I can't just order my regular size and know they will fit. I always have to find a style I like at an actual store and try them on for sizing...and then go order them from Zappos, cos they almost always cheaper there. |
I have always liked the look of Nike, but they were never all that comfortable. I personally think that Asics and New Balance are much more comfortable. |
Clarks or Hush Puppies |

Rhonda, I'm sooo glad you found a pair, and I hope they work well for you!! It took forever for my boyfriend to finally answer me about his shoes bc he's been out of town. The Nike tennis shoes he now wears are the Nike Cushlon. He actually gets his at the Nike outlet we have here. He swears by these, and they are his favorite type of Nikes. Also, for future reference in regards to Zappos, i wear a size that is hard to find, and I LOVE Zappos!! They have the best customer service of anywhere I have ever used for anything! Sometimes their prices on some things can be a little more, but not on everything. But it is free shipping both ways, and u have a year to return the shoes for your money back. If you sign up to be a VIP member it is free overnight. I have ordered as late as 4 pm and still had the shoes at my front door the next day!! But it sounds like you found a great pair, and I hope they work out well for you!!! |
