Meloxicam -Has anyone taken this?
 
My doctor just prescribed this medicine because I needed something stronger than Ibuprofen 800 mg for arm and shoulder pain.

Know of any side effects that I should watch out for?

Our medications have different names over here....oh my goodness, what's the matter with your shoulder and arm? Haven't you had enough to deal with this year already? ;) Poor lady :( Sally x

I haven't heard of that before. Could it possibly be Meloxicam?

OH:laugh: I Googled "melodically" and got all kinds of music stuff:p I hope the meloxicam works for you. Chronic pain is horrible. I take Tramadol for my lower back and it works great without the narcotic side effects.

I have taken it before, it did seem to help me. BUT my tummy has issues with NSAIDS, which is a bummer.

I'm starting Nexium tonight and taking Pepcid Complete. I know what you mean about stomach issues and NSAIDS. The doctor told me to eat "alot" at my meal when taking it.

I take it every day for arthritis. Took me off Celebrex and put me on it. I can really tell if I don`t have it. Helps me a lot. Just makes me drowsy tho. After mid morning nap, I am ready to go. I have no other side effects.

Do you take it after a meal? The doctor told me to take it with a lot of food and the pharmacist told me it didn't matter. I'll be taking it with a lot of food.:)

Lila - I've taken Meloxicam for my neck pain - which is at C5/C6 - I have a bone spur and arthritis in that joint, likely from a car accident from 20 yrs ago. It worked great for me! Meloxicam is known to be tougher on the liver than other similar meds, but as long as you don't have liver problems, I can't imagine it going wrong for you. Meloxicam is also known for causing way less tummy probs (for those sensitive to NSAIDS), so that's a benefit too.

Seriously though, I want some of this Melodically stuff...bc that just sounds lovely :D.

So sorry you have had neck pain for that long! I know how miserable that can be. I've learned to live with neck pain since I was a little girl. I have a spur on one of my joints (can't remember which one). Now they have told me I have osteoarthritis! Getting older sure is fun!:rolleyes:

Hi Lila, That is so funny you were asking about Meloxicam... I just went to the doctor last week (after a YT friend suggested I had a symptom that needed to be checked by a doc :)) and received a prescription for this on Thursday, after some other tests. I am taking it for tendinitis/pain behind my right knee and really have not had any side effects this week.

How about you, do you have any side effects?

I've only taken it once....last night. I was able to get some sleep. Before, my pain was waking me up and bringing me to tears. My only concern is that it can raise the liver enzymes. Mine are not completely out of whack, just a little raised already. I'll have to keep watch on this. I haven't hand any side effects yet.

Are you getting relief from your pain? It sounds painful to me. Not only is this medicine giving me some relief from my deltoid pain in the shoulder, it is easing the discomfort of my elbow tendonitis and carpal tunnel of the wrist.

I'm calling Monday morning and asking for an ultrasound to see if there is a tear or something. I had a massage this afternoon and the guy put his finger right on the pain of the deltoid!! He said he could feel something that was not normal. All I know is that it hurt like the dickens!

Let me know how you get along on this medicine. Did the doctor give you any exercises to do to help promote healing?

I take it with my breakfast. Doesn`t bother my stomach.

I take mine after dinner at night. I'm thinking it will kick in and help me be able to sleep. Not sure if it makes much difference, though

I am getting some relief from the pain. Actually, I did not take it one day and I could really tell, so I went back on it and will stay on it for at least one more week. I also noticed I was sleeping a little better, but my doc said that is not a side effect of the medicine. So maybe just less pain?

Exercises... I aggravate the tendonitis, if I try to walk very far, so have been doing some stretches and weight stuff instead. how about you?

Hope you get your deltoid pain figured out. Good luck. Such a joy aging, isn't it? :rolleyes:

I'm definitely sleeping better. I think it is because of less pain. The Physician's Assistant gave me 30 tabs with one refill. I believe once I quit taking it, I will be no better off. I need an ultrasound to find the source of the pain.

He gave me a list of exercises but I can't move my arm without great pain in order to do them!

Getting older really bites!
