I Had No Idea I am in shock today. I went to Walmart to pick up some Tilapia to feed my girls. I go to the frozen fish section. I noticed one said Tilapia filets and the other said all natural Tilapia. So I turn the packages over to see the differences. But what caught my eye was that the Tilapia came from China. :(. If China treats are bad for our dogs I'm pretty sure ths fish is too. :thumbdown. I am very discouraged after seeing this. And very disappointed with Walmart. My family has been told to check all packaging on food from here on out. Also found this article. FDA Fish Recall | Politicol Commentary News. Maybe everyone else already knew this. I didn't and I can honestly say I am just shocked. The natural Tilapia came from Costa Rica. |
Most of the tilapia here comes from China also. Itis sad. Stuck feeding it to Ellie a few ties. WAs not pleased. |
Yipes! China makes everything these days. I bought a new head for one of my mops last night, though, made in the USA:D I'd be scared to feed anything from China, too. I do check labels and try not to purchase anything from there. They already own our country, I refuse to make them any richer. If we all did this, we might get back to the way it used to be. Anyone else remember when Walmart proudly featured mostly "Made in the USA" stuff?!?! |

Rhonda until you texted me I had no idea!! OMG I have been eating that Tilapia from walmart..not for the kiddos...but me:eek: I took it out of the bag when I put it in the freezer, but it was the red bag you sent me a pic of:( I love tilapia..so I guess I will buy it fresh from another store..but I think it is imported too and says previously frozen on the label:( |
Scary isn't it? |
Get on Google y'all. Get ready for some shockers. There is a lot going on behind the scene that we are not aware of. I know some sources are not creditable but some of these are. I think we need to clear our land and grow our own food. I also read where teenagers there have to work 80 hours a week at 0.14 per hour. Horrible! |
I have some frozen Tilapia in my freezer made by Waterfront Bistro...I had to take it out and check it after reading these posts....my packages say that it is distributed by Lucerne Foods, I phoned the Lucerne Foods, gave them the package barcodes and lot numbers and was informed that these packages came from the good ole USA :flag42: |
You have to be careful even when you buy it from the butcher. It will say the country it is from. Or not it will say imported. You have to ask what country. However, a lot of seafood, fish in particular, gets mislabeled. Sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose. So unless you really know fish, or catch them yourself, you really can't be for sure. |
Most seafood sold in Aldi is also a product of China. |

I'm going to start looking closer at things. Produce is the only thing I have been watching. |

We had a aldi open near by. I don't like it. Even the frozen chicken has salt added!! With fish, being in Florida, I am lucky. I buy from a local fish shop that buys off the boats. I can not imagaine buying fish that is from far away as china. It just doesn't make sense in my head .. but I guess I have learned something new-- scary. Thanks Rhonda |
I love the canned mandarin oranges but haven't had any for years because I can't find any that are not a PRODUCT OF CHINA. Even the tomatoes at Krogers are from Mexico. It is getting to where you have to carefully study each label. I can't figure it out, because I have seen the mandarin orange groves in Southern California. |
No wonder the stores are so crowded and it also takes forever for me to shop----I'm so caught up with reading the labels on everything that it has become a fact-finding expedition:laugh: I second LilSis, living in South Florida we are very lucky to have access to fresh local fish. I never really liked fish much as a kid, but now I love it, probably because it's not frozen:laugh: |
