Long Beach Hoarder Standoff Did anyone hear about this yesterday Alleged Long Beach hoarder in custody after 7-hour standoff - latimes.com I know that guy. There were helicopter hoovering over my house and streets blocked off all day yesterday. I still cannot believe it! He's one of them people everyone knows in a neighborhood and wouldn't hurt a fly. Always so friendly to everyone. Still in shock. I'm not going to judge because I know he was not a violent person. He didn't want his stuff messed with and flipped. So so sad for him because I know he's in so much trouble. I can't predict the future so I'm not going to, but damn. Not sure what he was thinking. Just goes to show you never know what can happen in life. One second or bad decision can change your life as you know it. |
Wow, I'm sure he's going to be in a lot of trouble... He hit a code enforcement officer in the head :( It will be interesting to hear what comes of it... |
He's in big trouble. Attempted murder trouble. The whole neighborhood is really in shock. He was so nice to everyone.. Adults, children, everyone. I wonder how it really went down. Either way he shouldn't have went there with it. |
Poor soul...just lost his momma....I feel terrible for him, having to believe he had no other way to deal with what was happening in his life....He had obviously "lost his footing, his balance" with the death of his momma, and Lord only knows what else is deteriorating in his life....he has come unspooled...his center of balance has become all unbalanced....and he was not equiped to handle what in his mind, must have seemed like the gestapo, lamblasting into his disorder, and he really lashed out. Thank God the officer he shot, will survive...hopefully without any disability..... |
That is sad. I agree they should have attempted other means first. |

Hoarding is a disease. There are many emotional reasons why people do it. When it's the only control that they have in their life that makes sense to them and someone comes in and messes with it, they lose it. I feel bad for them. It's not healthy but obviously they can't control it. I'm very familiar with it because it touches a place close to me. It is also a hereditary tendency. :( |
That is so sad:( I wonder if you and your neighbors could all write letters to the District Attorney in charge of his case, stating his non-violent and peaceful coexistance in your neighborhood all these years. That's just not right for them to go in hard like that, he has a mental illness and they didn't deal with the situation properly:( I hope that instead of him going to jail, that he'll get the help he needs instead:love: |
This is so very sad. Some who is a hoarder needs mental help. He needs to be in a facility that can help him. But since he did shoot a gun at officers his chances are now possibly slim for that happening. I pray this man get's the help he so needs. |
A letter couldn't be a bad idea. It would at least be heard. Jail is no place for anyone to be unless you're a hardened criminal. They came with a cleaning crew to clean the inside and outside of his home. If someone showed up at my house with a broom and and trash bags ready to clean, I wouldn't be very welcoming either. Help for him would really be what he needs. But I agree, they are really going to try to get him. They had swat and everything involved. |
Here's a better article about it Anthony Glen Gorospe, Long Beach Hoarder, In Custody After Standoff (VIDEO) |
Oh and get this... The yard is still a mess. They were so determined to clean it and they haven't touched it. I need to go do something else. Thinking about it is making me mad. lol TTYL |
Hes being charged with 15 counts of murder and bail at 5 million right now. I'm seriously losing all faith in the government. So sad. |
That's so sad. I'm sure the police would have had a different approach when trying to reach out to a hoarder. Enlist a neighbor he trusts to get a dialogue going, set him up for counseling.... Anything other than just showing up ready to remove his belongings. It's sad that the only way they describe your neighbor is negatively like he choose to be this way. |
He needs a good legal defense. They knew he had problems (yes?) and yet they went in there all swat-like:mad: Someone that has mental issues needs to be handled with care and he did his perception told him to, defend his home from intruders. It's such a sad situation:cry: |
