Guilty Conscience On Tuesday I was at my brother's house with his wife and kids. We were playing out in the yard when we heard the neighbor across the street yelling. He's always yelling...at his kids, his wife, his dogs...so we thought nothing of it and just continued with what we were doing. It turns out this guy had gotten his hand stuck in a wood chipper and was actually yelling for help. He finally managed to get free and ran to the neighbor next door to us, woke him up from a dead sleep (that guy works nights), and had him drive him to the hospital. Apparently he was pretty badly injured. I feel sick to my stomach every time I think that we could have helped this guy if we had just gone to see what the yelling was about. I just needed to get it out there because it's wrecking my head. :( |
Don't beat yourself up over this. Had you known what was going on you would have helped. But, you didn't, and you don't have ESP (do you?) so you did nothing wrong... Things happen every day that we cannot control or change. The only thing that we can be responsible for is how we respond when we know what is going on...(I hope that this post doesn't sound harsh.) |
awww poor guy.... hope hes going to be ok. :( You ever hear 'crying wolf'? maybe he'll stop yelling so much now so that people (his family mainly) knows when he does yell it's something serious. |
I understand how you feel but I ALSO understand why you ignored him. It is unlikely he will ever admit it though. Louise |
i wouldnt be to hard on yourself he got himself to the hospital and if he didnt act so irrational yelling all the time then he would have been helped. that is not your fault it's his. glad he ended up ok. |
oh.. please don't feel bad. How were you to know it was something besides just his yelling. There is a fable about that.. the boy who called woof. . maybe not exactly the same but you can see what I am saying. You are just a kind person and feel bad. Let it go.. peace:) |

I was thinking the exact same thing!! Hope he's ok though. |
How in the world could you have known he was badly injured because he was yelling if he's always? Unless he was yelling "Help!" or "I'm bleeding!" or something, how could you know he was injured? You would have helped had you known he was in dire trouble but you didn't know. Still, I can understand how queasy you must feel & how you can't get that sound out of your head for a while. It is human nature and it sounds like your heart & conscience are working just fine. Hope the guy is going to be okay & he will stop yelling so much at his family. And I hope you don't feel guilty! |
