ABSOLUTELY!!! When I was a teen ager, we had an in-ground pool...we had to have a 6 foot fence around the yard, a pad locked gate...and then a 4 foot fence around the pool proper...that pool was so much legal responsibility...when Hurricane Alicia hit Houston, it blew down all the fencing...my parents had to hire a guard at night, until the fence could be reconstructed, because the insurance would be null and void if a kid got in there a drowned. The years after that, momma got up one morning and opened the sliding door curtains, and there was candles all around the pool, like some kind of devil worship had gone on during the night...momma almost died!!! She called the police and the insurance company, theysaid to post signs, and that was all they needed to additionally...so she did...NO UNAUTHORIZED SWIMMING ALLOWED....several months later, she actually caught 4 kids swimming....called the police, as she wanted it on record...she was so afraid some kid was going to drown and she would be liable.....and then, in retaliation, they thr4ew millions of BBs into the pool, that got sucked up into the pool pump and cirrculating system.....HUGE MESS.... |

We just had a tragic accident in my area with a pool. A toddler got out of his home and wondered over to the neighbors house that had an in ground pool. They looked for a couple of hours when someone decided to look in the pool. No one had looked there because the pool had a gate around it which was supposedly latched and they also had a solar cover on it. He slipped under the cover and went to the bottom. So sad..... |

We have cameras and an alarm system but the alarm doesn't cover someone climbing over our fence. Although, here, coming into a fenced in area with locked gates still constitutes trespassing and if I felt threatened, I could shoot them. I have shown up at the front yard with a loaded shotgun in hand. The teens in question didnt hang around to see if I was actually going to use it or not. ;) |
Sometimes it's scary having a pool. You can further protect yourself by putting up "NO TRESPASSING" signs on the fence, where they are most visible to those idiots that would climb over to get to your pool. You know, when I was a teenager, we used to "pool hop" and never thought a thing about it:o Of course, people weren't sue-happy back then, either:rolleyes: And we were respectful, we didn't leave any trash or make a mess, we just went for a quick, quiet dip and left. Hopefully they won't be back! |
