Does anybody live in Missouri?
 

What are your opinions of living there? How do you like the weather, your community, schools, job market?

Thinking of relocating??? I have been there for dog shows, by St Louis

It's just a thought at this point. Maybe Springfield, know anything about that area?

I was born and raised in Liberty, which is a suburb of Kansas City. I don't think I would want to live anywhere else....except maybe the Virgin Islands!!! But, I have never lived anywhere else....so I don't have anything to compare too! Also, all of my family lives here.

I don't really know anything about the Springfield area. But up around the northern part of Kansas City they have a lot of AAA rated school districts (North Kansas City School District, Liberty Sch. Dist., Kearney Sch. Dist, Parkhill Sch. Dist.). The southern part of Kansas City you probably want to stay away from. Job market probably depends on what field you are in...but I think for the most part it is pretty steady.

I love it here. But then again everyone has their preferences. I lived in FL for 11 years & I didn't like it. I love the different seasons. The winters, here in St. Louis, aren't as bad. We don't get much snow. A good thing to do would be look on line at the St. Louis Post for job availabilty, which you probably already have done. It would be nice if you were close, we could have a play date LOL!

okay. I have lived my whole life in a town in Illinois 2 hours away from Missouri and so I've been there countless times. I've been living in San Diego for the past 4 years because of the Navy. In a nutshell her is Cali vs Missouri.

Missouri has less traffic, a better school system, bigger yards and houses for less money. San Diego is crowded and for the most part houses and yards are small for the money you're putting into it. In San Diego a 2 bedroom Condo runs around $400,000. My friend just bought a 3 year old, 3 bedroom house with a huge yard in Missouri for only $100,000.

The cost of living is much lower. But also for the most part you make less money working in Missouri than California. So it would be better to work in Cali and then retire to the midwest. The people in the midwest are nicer in that they aren't as busy or stressed out I guess? It's like if you walk down a hall, past someone in the midwest, most likely they will say, "Hi" to you if they look at you. In Cali it doesn't happen nearly as much.

It is BORING in Missouri compared to Cali. In Cali there is always something big you can do, in Missouri you have to drive a while if you don't live in the city. Of course Cali has big and better entertainment venues.

The weather is much colder in Missouri. They have something called "seasons" there. But I am from Socal so it is always hot. If you are from N.Cali then the weather would be just about the same. In Cali I worry about earthquakes. In Missouri you worry about tornados.
Basically I'm going through the same decision. My husband gets out of the navy next year. We've decided to move back to the midwest so that we can get our own house. So tired of renting! Good luck!

THanks for this info. It's good to have someone who has lived both places give me the comparison. The first line of your description is exactly why we want to move. Financially, the schools and property. At this point we would probably be able to sell our house and use the equity to buy with cash, a house in missouri on some property. Sounds so good when we've been struggling with bills for so long. But my husband still needs to be able to find a job. So at this point that is our main worry.

I am originally from New York... born and raised. I have been in Scott City, Missouri (2 hours south of St. Louis) for 7 1/2 years. It's a slower lifestyle here, the people are friendlier than NYers, job market (eh... depends on what you do). I was a computer programmer and left NY and still worked for the same company for 3 1/2 years while here (telecommuter)... just went back up North every couple of months or so. Now I am just a bum (and loving it).

I still go to New York at least once a year. My family is still there. I would NEVER move back there. Too crowded!!!!!!

... and yes, you can get alot of property and a beautiful house for a lot less than in New York or California.

WOW!! I envy those of you who had the guts to move. I moved only 25 miles away from where I had lived recently and just that little distance was scarey and stressful. Good luck to you Sweetie in whatever you decide and definitely keep us posted!!

Move close to Kansas City then we can get together for puppy playdates. :)

I live only 3 miles from the Missouri state line. :D I've been to Springfield. I usually go to Joplin, because it's closer to me. Springfield and Joplin are both growing and are not that far from one another. Springfield is not too far north of Branson, where all of the country entertainment is centered. You would be close to lots of lakes, pretty hilly country, and beautiful trees. Quite a few people from here have moved there over the years.

You're best bet for good jobs are in KC, St. Louis or Springfield area. I live in a small town in the bootheel. As far as the weather, it's always changing. A couple of days ago it was in the 30's and today it was in the 50's.

I have lived in Missouri my whole life and I dont think that I would live anywhere else, the people are very friendly, but yes it is very boring at times also but no matter where you live you are going to get bored. I live about an hour away from Springfield, it is a big town compared to where I live and not my type of lifestyle. I am a country girl, Springfield is just a few little steps from Branson where there are lots of things to do and lots of places to shop. I think that you would love to live in Missouri it is very much cheaper here but like someone else mentioned you dont get payed as much. I wish you luck on your decision.
