Mop n Glo on hardwoods? I'm in love! DH has been landscaping the backyard. New paver patio, new sod, new gas firepit and new water feature. He's not quite done. Still has the planted beds to stock and add bark to and still working on the water feature. However, the french doors that go tot he back yard are off my formal dining room. Just last November, I gutted that room and completely renovated it. New walls, ceiling, 18 lights (I'm a lighting hound) and my showpiece.... dark walnut hardwood floors. They were beautiful... that is, until he started landscaping... The sand being tracked in really did a number on them. I was so upset when I saw how scratched and hazed they were getting. They looked old and dull already and they're brand new, so refinishing them seems a little premature. Plus, he's not quite done with the back yard yet, so what's the point? It took me a week to install that floor, so you can imagine how disappointed I was. Yesterday I discovered Mop n Glo. OMG! The scratches disappeared, the haze is gone and they're gleeming! Tell me I'm not dreaming here? A thin coat on a swiffer and I don't even have streaks. Does anyone else use this stuff on hardwoods? I'd never given it a thought before. The rest of my house is travertine tile, so can't use anything but soap and water on those floors. |
I don't want to burst a bubble or anything, but doesn't Mop and Glo build up. In the beginning it looks great, but over time.... I also worry about chemicals getting on the pups feet. There are steam cleaners that do a good job. We have one in my clinic and our hardwood always looks nice. |
Did you use the M&G made for hardwood? I haven't tried it yet, but I will be later today! |

Gemy, I have a Shark steamer. Didn't do anything for it. It got it clean, but the scuffs and scratches from the sand being tracked in didn't go away. The M&G dries rather quickly and the formal dining room is the one room the pups aren't allowed into. I diluted it 50/50 in a spray bottle and spread a very thin coat onto the floor with a swiffer. By the time it builds up, I'll strip it and start over. Everything else in the house is cleaned with Grapefruit seed extract and water. I love that stuff. $12 for a little bottle and it has the same disinfecting properties as bleach without the smell. And it's edible. That little bottle will last a year. I'm not a big fan of chemical cleaners. Never have been. |

Thanks Gina. I'm going to try the grapefruit extract. Unfortunately there is no room in our house the pups don't go into. So Mop n Glow will be out for me. May have to refinish hardwood, of course this is after I get the bathroom fixed, a doggy bathtub installed in laundry room, a new car, and a trip to Russia ..lol |
For those interested in using Grapefruit seed extract as a general, all purpose cleaner.. You can find it in the health food/vitamin section at the supermarket. It's a pretty small bottle, typically 2 oz. and is generally labeled GSE. Mix 1 drop per 2 fluid ounces into a spray bottle and use as a cleaner. Sushi chefs use this to clean their prep counters because they can't use chemicals. I figure if it can handle disinfecting a surface after dead fish, it can handle my house. It's also safe to use on natural stone so long as you towel dry the area after cleaning. |
